Photographer’s Note

The coastline of Oostende is typical for most of the Belgian coastal cities, on every free space buildings and apartments arise. It's esthetically not very attractive, most of the Belgians speak about the largest construction scandal in their country.
Because of it's strategic position, the city became a seaside-resort visited by tourists as from 1850. Many hotels were contructed in the Belle-epoque-style, but destroyed by the well brokers to construct expensive appartments in the '60. The residential skyscraper you can see, is the "Europe Center". It was built in 1969 and is the tallest one in Belgium outside Brussels.
