Photographer’s Note
I took this photo as this elephant was being taken on its daily walk. Its home is the well known Kandy Temple (the temple of the budha's tooth relic). The gentleman in the green shirt is his caretaker.
This caretaker told me that the young elephant is given a "treat" every time he completes one circuit in his walk - the treat is some sort of leaves (of which there is a large pile on the right side of the road). As i was watching, the elephant cassually approaches the pile, delicately pics out a few branches and continues his way.
The general hustle and bustle of the city of Kandy is also captured in this photo. With this image i was hoping to capture how the elephant is also a part of the daily life in Kand - here, it is not a very strange thing to wait at the crossing for an elephant, as opposed to waiting for a car!
