A fisherman patiently works his favourite stretch of the River Wharfe. This river acts as the county boundary for much of its length of 97 kilometres between West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire. The valley through which it flows is called Wharfedale.

To the right of the fisherman can be seen the Hebden Stones, which normally lie above water this time of year and are used as a river crossing alternative to the little footbridge. The fisherman told me that he had been living here all his life and that this was the latest in the year he had been able to fish at this spot due to the high water caused by the incessant rains of May.

Great shot John! I like the overall colour and contrast, especially the way you were able to bring out the sky. One intriguing thing is the line of the bridge and the line of the white water, and the way they parallel each other, with the fisherman in between. Well done!

Hi John,
This is so typical. I remember an old TV Show (may be from the 80's) with a guy, that was travelling through England and he cooked in peoples houses. In that TV Show we had som scenarios like this one. Very clean and fresh. Very Natural.
Wonderfual POV and colors.
Well done

Hi John,
Your excellent light management and focus has given perfect color and detail throughout; He's gotten his line right out there!! The way you framed the shot is masterful with the angle of the rapids, the fisherman, the transparency of the water before it speeds up, the bridge forms a division between the water scene and the green scene. I especially like the flowering tree and the wonderful clouds set in bluest sky.
Regards, Pat

Hi John

Great Scenery here again the mood on your sky is superb, a place great for many passion, fishing, photograhy.

Wonderful shot John - it reminds me of a painting with so many classic artistic elements & good colours. Trees, sky, river & just a small amount of human activity, a tranquil scene.

Hi John!
Wonderful view! Excellent colors, light and shot, great POV. Well done ;-)
thanks for sharing

Beautiful landscape under fluffy clouds which look ready to drop their load at any moment. Great lighting, good composition with strong lines of the bridge and the drop in the level of water.
Best wishes

Hi John,
I can see that you managed well to contact with people from the places you visit and photograph, which allow you to get good informative notes and nice stories also for your work as a writter. You show us here, another splendid capture of a countryside landscape, the most favorite of yours. Good POV and composition, with the fisherman well placed at left and impressive colors and light reflections on the river. The marvellous cloudy sky completes the attractive "painting". I really like that bridge, as another element of interest in this rich scenery. Very well done!
Ricardo

John, beau paysage avec ce pêcheur qui a lancé sa ligne au bon endroit, là où se trouve le courant, repère des poissons en quête d'oxygène et de proies.

Hi John
A nice and idyllic English scene. Looks like one of those old master paintings in the Tate Gallery. The composition is good and the placing of the fisherman balances the scene very well. Good lush colours and a nice amount of contrast which delivers added impact to the shot. Nice to see you have captured England on a sunny day!!!
Cheers
Aubrey

Mmmm... what a pleasure to an eye here:) Composition is very nice with this fisherman, bridge and the stone crossing. Good to see some other people on the opposite bank. I like the chestnut tree in full blossom as well, and the sky is majestic! Very good shot!

Hi John,

One of the a lot lovely places of United Kingdom, peaceful place, splendid for fisherman but also for good stroll, of with mountain bike, beautiful environment without cars and city sound, what a luxury.

Have a nice day,
John

Excellent rural image again, this time with the fisherman to add extra interest to a scene already bursting with interest. The colours look so typically English. The reflections are lovely in the river and even though I experienced the wet May, I am surprised to see the stepping stones under water.

Hello John,
Excellent job.

Hi John
A pastoral composition,that looks like a Sunday.
Maybe the fisherman,or ,and the people on the other side, enjoying the day.
The more I look at it,the more I get the feeling that they will all start moving,it is how real everything is.
Excellent

PS:have you seen my answer that i left on your last visit.?

Hey John;

Sorry for the long absense, I've just returned from 2.5 weeks in beautiful British Columbia! Just noticing your Canon 20D- is that a new camera you picked up- or the same as before???

A nice shot here, good composition, clarity, sharpness etc etc- and the addition of the fisherman adds a much needed human element to the shot.

All the best John!
- Dan

Hi John. We sure don't see many fly-fishing pictures on TE. The inclusion of the fisherman gives it a laid-back and stress-free feeling which I like a lot. Your colors have a good deal of punch to them. It might have been fun to see the guy in the act of casting for some additional dynamics.

Nice place, the stoned path is a fine detail and all the picture is well with a nice "dimanche à la campagne" mood.
I like it

Hello John. This is a lovely, idyllic scene. The fisherman is perfectly placed at the far side, showing off the environment in which he stands. I also like the nice balance of exposure to both sky and land areas. Well done, as usual!

Hi John,

Yhe sharpness and details are amazing... the bridge, the trees...

I agree with Aubrey in that the composition is very well balanced and that fisherman adds a lot. I also like the way in which you used the CP filter. It enhanced the presence of the clouds, yet the sky looks very natural.

Well done!
Kind regards,
Carlos

Hello, John!
You show us a scene full of different and interesting informations:
- one man is fishing and I'm sure, with success!
- one couple is contemplatin the river, maybe a fisherman, too
- one man is wondering if to pass the bridge...
And this all in a fantastic, green scenery. UK must be a beautiful country for a photographer - full of contrasts, colors and old architecture, artwork... How I wish to be there somewhen...
regards,
Greg

Hi John,
Interesting picture and info. I tried to follow the line of the fishing rod. It looks if it going on at the right border of the picture. I can hardly imagine that's true.
groet Rob

Hi John - it does not get more relaxing than this does it, fishing in peace, even if the sky looks threatening but also pleasantly dramataic, sometimes I think the entire territory of England was designed by professional landscape architects (except the industrial urban centres of course :-))

Hi John,
Another nice one here, this scene is delightful, without the fisherman it would already be a very enjoyable landscape for its rich greens and the pleasant light. Having the fisherman is like having the cherry on top of the cake !
Have a nice week end,
Jean-Yves

Hello John, it is perhaps one of the last landscapes still quite green with this heat wave which prevails, the light is splendid and the many colours of green are well development by an excellent exposure, framing is really beautiful as usual, as well as the many ones detail always quite pleasant with the quite moderate color, sincerely moderate

Hi John,
A lovely frame...something I could easily put up on my wall and look at for relaxation.Couldn't find anything wrong with this one even if I really tried.Beautifully composed, well balanced in both light and content...the fisherman and others adding life to the image.Well done and have a good weekend.
Regards, David

Hi John,

Beautiful shot, the proportions are good, composition is well.

Hi John, great light in this riverside scene. It all looks very relaxed. The compo really benefits from the three strogn horizontals: the streak of blue in the sky, the bridge and the little cascade. The colours and definition is at prime. Lovely work.
Have a nice week,

Hi J! Many thanks for the wonderful pic of the River Wharfe. I have lost a few golf balls further down river to this point.
The bridge either makes the picture or spoils it... but having walked over it many times.. I love the whole picture.. wonder if you went back before sunset to enjoy the longer shadows!
Thank you for taking the time to find out about the river.. which can be very dangerous after heavy rain!

Hi Doug:

So calm... so quiet... so country-side scene. Very sharply taken. Perfect POV. Love it.
