Early Morning Mist Photo

Photographer’s Note

At 6:30 this morning, my son and I took a walk around our subdivision. This is a shot of one of our retention ponds.

We had a cool night, getting down into the mid 50's. Hey, that's cold in Central Florida ; ) As a result the mist was rising from the warmer water, making a very lovely affect. The cypress trees on the far shore are casting a clear reflection on the pond's still water, as are the clouds ( a very interesting pattern, don't you think?). Everything was highlighted by the sun, just about to show itself. All these elements combined, made for a few magical moments for my 7 year old and I!

I cropped this shot, resized it, and sharpened it slightly.

PS We got a neighbourhood flyer the other day, encouraging people to stop feeding the alligators in this pond (which is illegal in Florida). No more trips alone to the pond for my kids!

Fine combination of composition and color! The reflections are superb!

Looks like one to print, matte, frame and hang over the sofa!!

A beautiful capture of the mist. I like the chosen crop showing the unbalanced reflection. Looks like a very brisk morning.

This is a stunning photo, John. I personally like the very symmetrical cropping with only the mist to break the symmetry. And of course it works so well because the reflection in the water is so clear. I also find the image very sharp. An alligator in the lower left-hand corner and you would have had a National Geographic Magazine cover photo in your camera.

Great shot with wonderful colours and reflection - with the mist adding to the total effect... well captured!
