Banana-wallah Photo

Photographer’s Note

This man is a labourer and fruit-porter in the Devaraja Market in Mysore. He earns a living by carrying basketfuls of bananas on his head. I don’t know exactly how much he gets paid, but I’ve been told that average daily wages in India are often in the range of 40 to 50 rupees, or one US dollar.

The picture is slightly cropped.

Hi Joanna, seems I am the first viewer of ur new entry. An interesting post this one. Though the composition is not as good as your first one. And focus is not soo sharp on the man's face. An interesting note !! Keep posting !! :)

This is a good portrait Joanna. May be I would have cropped a bit of the top, but I like his expression very much.

it is a nice portrait, nice pose and expression - very natural. i like those bananas behind him too - they provide some broader context - that's his life. but the picture is too soft - a bit out of focus or just sth with the scanning. i'd sharpen it in PS and also i'd work with levels a bit...
anyway, it is a very nice picture

Nice portrait Joanna! I wouldn't change anything in it. I like this bananas as a background. Well done.

I have been to Mysore and the fruit market. I like your photo, with the bananas behind him! He seems worried..... it is a nice daily life portrait!!!!
