Photographer’s Note
I arrived at a suitable viewpoint about half an hour or so before sunset. After taking several pictures with the architecture glowing in the setting sun (which was behind me) I waited for the lights to come on illuminating the Cité whilst there was still colour in the sky. I waited ... and waited and as it was now dark and still the lights had not come on I decided to pack my camera away. Just as I was about to leave the lights came on! I took several photos but colour was rapidly draining from the sky. This was my favourite as the blue of the sky balances with the floodlit buildings and you can still see the shape of the hills behind.

Hi Andrew -welcome to TE, this is probably the best photo I've seen from Carcassonne, the illumination is perfect, as is the timing with the outline of the rounded peaks still visible, which is rare enough occurence, my experience has been this are is too hazy normally to have the hills stand out so visibly, congrats.

Hello Andrew,
You're off to a great start on TE with such a high quality photo as your first post! I'm a big fan of these "blue hour" shots and this is one is no exception. Compo, contrast, sharpness, it's all good and even the mountains in the background came out nicely despite the haze.
I wish you lot's of fun on TE!

Well Andrew I see you waited just long enough to get busy and start shooting. Your timing was perfect. I love the blue sky above and the flood lights bringing interesting details on this castle. A dight to behold indeed..thanks for sharing and Welcome to Trek Earth! I commented on a member who just finished posting 800 photos yesterday. I trust you enjoy your stay here! Cheers!

Hi Andrew,
Wonderful shot! The light is delightful and permits a great contrast between the medieval walls and the blue mountains behind. Good sharpness too.
You've well done to wait a so long time, this picture is so great!

Hi Andrew,
Nive POV and ambiance. Lot of mistery given by the lighting.
Good shot.
TFS.
