Photographer’s Note
My first view of the Duyfken was in miserable weather and rather sterile surroundings at the Melbourne Docklands. Yesterday, 29/6, the ship was moved to Williamstown, across the top end of Port Phillip Bay where it is correctly called Hobson's Bay. In this photo you can see the city of Melbourne in the background, as well as moored tugboats.
Anyway, the weather was much better so I drove to Williamstown and took some more shots. I wasn't sure whether to post this photo or a cropped and enlarged portrait orientation which I'll post as a workshop.
There are few people about as the ship was not open for viewing on this day. The wind was a bit stiff, and despite the sun it blew right through me.

Hello Andrew,
voilà un parfait cadrage, avec le bateau complet, le ciel est très particulier. Un grand décalage entre le bateau et les buildings en arrière plan, deux époques.
Belles couleurs.
Regards and have a great week-end.
Daniel.

Hi Andrew,
There's a great wind-swept and fresh feel to this image. I think your composition is excellent, and I like the contrast between the replica ship and the modern city behind.
I would have preffered it if the sky was a bit bluer; at the moment it has a slight greenish tinge to it. Maybe a polariser would have helped. Its a very good shot even so.
It must be quite cold in Melbourne at the moment; its scorching here.
Enjoy the weekend,
Ben

Hi Andrew,
This is an interesting vessel..! Big sail ships are always so fascinating, beautiful as they are...
Part of the fascination is of course also connected to the history and legends closely knit to this trades...
Well composed image with very good clours and fine details!

Hi Andrew,
Like this shot very much, the ship really looks like the one from a Dutch XVII century painting! (if it wasn't for the modern surroundings of course!;)) The version you uploaded is much better than the WS, it gives scale and "contrast of time" to the image.
Really well done,
Alexander

Great shot, Andrew. I like the riffled clouds and fluttering flags. I don't know the history of this ship, but it seems to be a replica of one of the Dutch East India ("Here Sewentien") ships. They left their mark on the history of the Cape of Good Hope too. The big sky and choppy water underline the frailty of these vessels...a good composition. Regards,
Ryno

Hi Andrew. Well composed tall ship, which i happen to love to see. The flags waving in the wind are a great bonus. The choice to place where you did makes it really like an ocean-going vessel. Brave sailors in those small vessels. Murray.
PS I think there is PP to remove background and replace with just sea and sky, but i don't know how it is done, but am sure other trekers do know.

How absolutely wonderful!
I'm very fond of Williamstown, for this very reason...acres of pretty blue sky, and a motley collection of wonderful boats patrolling Philip Bay.
The city in the distance is a quite apt backdrop! Rather nice indeed...
