Photographer’s Note
Bottomless Pools near Lake Lure, North Carolina is where this was taken on a warm sunny spring day. For this shot I used my old Exilim EX-S3. I don't have a tripod, but there was a handrail on the little bridge across the water that gave me the stability to facilitate such clarity. I had the flash on forced to backfill some of the darker corners of the stream, as the canopy of trees there was so thick.
The Lake Lure area is a holiday location (I purposely did NOT say a "holiday resort") created over 100 years ago by a wealthy Doctor Lucius Morse, who in 1902 bought 8,000 acres or 12.5 square miles of the land in this area from a local farmer. The lake was artificially formed by the creation of a couple of dams.
He also purchased land around Chimney Rock, North Carolina. This area is full of breathtakingly beautiful vistas and great opportunities for spectacular photography. One view across the lake is called the Million Dollar View.
I will look for the picture I took of it and post it here on TE soon... stay tuned.
