The famous sailing ship Shtandart at last week's city event "Alye Parusa" (meaning "red sail" as far as I was told). A big party took place which is now kind of a "end of school" event for most kids in town with a concert on the palace square and a huge firework over the Neva River. During the firework the Shtandart comes sailing (or in this case motoring as the wind came from the wrong direction) up the Neva and then makes its way down to its landing place again. It was actually so far the largest and most impressive party in a city I have experienced.
P.S.: I just realised that I forgot to add this photo was taken at around 2am during the White Nights. As soon as you think it might finally get dark you realise that dawn is breaking and it really NEVER gets absolutely dark...

Very impressive night shot, which must have used a very high ISO to catch that movement, an impressive demo of the cameras ability, and very nicely timed for the compo.

Hello Ulrike
Wonderful dusk shot, perfect amount of lighting to really put some mystery to the ship.
Colours are bright and the framking seems to be very fitting to the subject.
Thank you for sharing.

Halo Ulrike,

I am glad I discovered your pictures, and here is one which deserves praising, because of it's timing, excellent exposure, blue twilight, and so on.
Good job - Many thanks - Izzet

Great timing, not only because of the special event, but also because of the time of day, excellent work.

Hi Ulrike, I cannot refrain from commenting on this photo from my native and favourite city, very timely capture, and the lighting of this yacht with red sails is gorgeous. Nice composition as well with this opened bridge.

Cheers
Alexander
