Worship the Virgin Photo

Photographer’s Note

Following my series on the Chapel of Casabito (my last three pics before this), this shot shows us the Virgin Mary, in the incarnation of Altagracia, our local "patrona". Look how Altagracia is dressed with clothes that closely resemble the Dominican Republic Flag.

Following Catholic liturgy, the Virgin is a very central figure in religious rithuals, and often her statues are bigger and more colorful than Christ's himself, especially in motherhood-related representations. Here you see the Virgin adoring Baby Jesus, but all the colors and delicate features are on the Virgin, not the Child.

Dominicans, like many other Catholic-influenced cultures, usually pray more to the Virgin than to Jesus Christ.

Despite this, please note how somebody placed a person's picture in Baby Jesus's arm, surely to have the Virgin bless that person.

Me gusta mucho la composición de tu foto con las dos vírgenes, pero me parece que a la foto le falta algio de nitidez. Traté de aumentarla con un WS, pero no lo logré. Saludos, Yvonne

PD: Excelente idea la de cortar esta parte de la foto

Lograste aqui un buen efecto optico con las dos virgenes sobrepuestas, tu POV esta muy bueno y me gustan los detalles, colores y composicion de tu foto. Tu WS lo encuentro muy bueno y a traves de el me doy cuenta de como lograste esta excelente fotografia.

Hi Dario,
This composition, with the two Virgin Mary's in the same pose, with the same clothes, is very interesting. I like the tight framing, and it is unique the way the clothing is linked to your national flag.
