[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The music and club scene in Singapore is alive and well, and live music is quite common. From Jazz to latin, rock to pop- it can all be found in the bars, pubs and clubs around Singapore.

My good friend Chris has been a part of the local music scene for quite some time as a Jazz Pianist.
A few months ago he asked me to take some shots for a an upcoming CD release. As I awaited him and the group to finish their set at the club, I snapped a few shots.

Now I've had this shot in mind for quite some time. Being that Chris is quite dark it makes this shot work even better in my opinion, as his skin color contrasts nicely with the white piano keys.

The reflection off Chris's hands and the piano keys off the shiny black surface is icing on the cake.

I'm quite happy with the overall result, and I hope you like the shot.

Warmest Regards,
- Dan

Hi Dan,
Congrats for this photo! I think you said it all in your note: the B/W contrast, the reflection off the shiny surface... all the elements converge to make this a successful shot. Your frame complements all that beautifully.
Tfs,
Raluca

The bracelet is the accent that makes the shot unique, Dan. The crossing diagonals of the keyboard against the hands and keys makes a great rhythm (just like the music, I imagine.) You brought out the detail in his hands very well. It may not be an original shot but there's always a new angle to show. Did you shoot as grayscale or convert from color? Either way, the tones are handled very well. Regards, Ken.

Wonderful photo, difficult to critique because there's nowt wrong with it. I wonder how it would have looked if you'd used a larger aperture to play with the DOF, blurring the background and foreground keys a little?

Hi, Dan
This picture looks quite nostalgic for me. I remember the time when I was playing the piano, but not anymore... I like the composition, excellent contrast between black and white, a unique reflection. Very well framed and captured, Dan.

Hi Dan,

I find this a very interesting shot with beautiful details. This is a perfect photo for B&W and everything blends in so well. The reflection in the piano is amazing and makes this photo more special. Great composition and beautifully capture. Great work, Dan!

Greetings,
Ann

Hi Dan!
Long time no talk! ;) But, even if I did not take the time to write you "critique", I can tell you that I still follow your work. I could choose so many pictures in your gallery... I've chosen the last one. Not because it is a so striking photo. But for few reasons of my own. First of all, because I love so much piano. Not only because of the wonderful music that instrument can make, but for the pure beauty of the object. If I had a lot of money and space, I would buy a grand piano, just for the pure beauty of it! The second reason is also about something that always attract my eyes: the hands. Hands talks. If I had a lot of money and space... na! just joking! Third reason, the nice and good reflection. I don't really care for the bracelet (not a big fan of them).
Are you going to visit Canada this summer? If so, I hope you'll enjoy that time!
Claire

A really classy shot Dan, that is one cool reflection and I like the black and white conversion. A true professional looking photo.

The only thing I think that could be improved with the shot is perhaps some indication that he is playing, as it looks as if his hands are just resting on the keys.

Well well Dan a scene of two busy hands at the piano. Very nice details and composition. I see you framed in the hands perfectly in the photo. Nicely done Dan!

A very nice compo, Dan. It looks like the reflected hands are not the smae hands on the real piano keys, and that's waht makes this image so interesting. I also appreciate the diagonal line and the fact that the keyboard doesn;t end inside the frame, and looks endless. Very good job.

Hi Dan,
An impressive capture, with superb clarity and unusual reflections. This is quite an artistic piece of work, Dan. I like the tasteful angled POV and the framing and cropping work...Its good to be back. Warm regards.
John

Someone before me wrote down: it may be not very original.. True. I've seen this motif million times, yet...I love it.
I consider this a brave post. Why...would you ask?
Well, you're too good Daniel in this field not to know that it's rather a standard, well known shot, and either you can do it 'yours' or forget it.
You did it 'yours' and my hat goes off to you.
George
The richness of 'grays' impresses greatly.

I love the shot Dan, It's a pervect B&W shot with plenty of contrast and the diagonal composition is first class, nice going.

Too bad no sound. The clarity is there and so is the composition. Chris should be happy to have this in his collection. Though his hands are at rest, the keys are ready to be hammered and this is the essence of his instrument.

I just like it
