Photographer’s Note
I took that image from the Brown Castle, built over the cape Baffe, looking South. On the right side there is the San Giorgio Church built in the 1154.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Portofino is a small Italian city located in the province of Genoa on the Italian Riviera. The city crowded round its small harbor is considered to be among the most beautiful Mediterranean ports, and is a popular tourist destination. Portofino has even been recreated in detail at the Portofino Bay Resort at Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida.
According to Pliny the Elder, Portofino was founded by the Romans and named Portus Delphini, or Port of the Dolphin, because of the large number of dolphins that inhabited the Tigullian Gulf. The city's natural harbour supported a fleet of fishing boats, somewhat too cramped to provided more than a temporary safe haven for the growing merchant marine of Republic of Genoa during the Middle Ages. In the early 20th century, first British, then German tourist began to visit Portofino, which they reached by horse and cart from Santa Margherita Ligure. Aubrey Herbert (1880–1923) was one of the more famous Englishmen to maintain a villa at Portofino. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor honeymooned at the Hotel Splendido, and years later Richard Burton proposed to Elizabeth Taylor. Rex Harrison had a villa high on the terraced slopes. Eventually more expatriates built expensive vacation houses, and by 1950 tourism had supplanted fishing as the city's chief industry, and the waterfront was a continuous ring of waterside restaurants and cafés.

Hi Paolo,
It could be taken in 1154, what a great mood, really fantastic...!!!
Bit overexposed on the left, but for me that's no problem, it gives it even more.
Great shot..!!!

Well done Paolo.
Me gusta esta photo, el punto de vista y el negro y blanco.
Un poco de dificultad sin embargo con el contraluz.

Hi Paolo
Nice image with a good framing. The backlighting is very strong here, but I think it gives the image strong impact. The silhouettes are nicely defined too. The monotone works well and makes the silhouette stand out strongly. Good work.

Ciao Paolo,
You continue with the sepia series. What I like more in here is the 'v' shape of the sillouette in foreground. I like the result of your pp (I must try it as well...), which resulted on an attracted image of strong visual impact. Also thanks for the connected links to your previous posts of this place (your portrait of 1972 is precious). Good work!

Hi Paolo.
Excellent silhouettes. Really great. The sense of depth of the picture mixed with this light makes it a good shot.

I love the composition and the silhouettes from shooting into the sun. I am enjoying your sepia series, but a big part of me would like to see this in colour.

Ciao Paolo,
Buen escaneado, y buena foto.
Ci vediamo,
Josep

Interesting treatment of this colourful little town. Good idea to wait for the boat, and the silhouette of the foreground sets it off nicely.

Hey Paolo,
I really like the v shaped silhouette at the bottom that frames the action on the sea. Strong light into your camera has produced a reallly nice and sort of mysterious feel to the outlines as well as highlighted the sea and the boats. I like the sepia look, I think youve chosen it to give your series on these villages a unified look, a decsision that was spot on.

Dear Paolo, ciao,
Ever since I saw Antonioni's Beyond the Clouds I fell in deep love with Portofino... hope I can visit one day! Superb shot, very elegiac, beautiful tones and filled with mood... it also reminds me of a Moravia book called 1934 which, though taken place in Capri, had this feeling for me.
Beautiful!

Hi Paolo,
I think you got the spirit of this place captured just right on your photograph...I like the passing boat very much in your composition...there's even a sailboat here...a coast one can only dream off sitting in a place like mine;-)...cheers, arturo
