Fear - our biggest enemy

When I took this shot of very unusual stormy cloud, that actually looks more like a painting than photo, vision of darkness and fear came to my mind. We all do feel fear whenever we face something new or unknown.
Usually we fear things we don't understand. Fear of failure. Fear of success. Fear of any or all of a dozen or more things - real or imagined. Fear, it would seem, is the enemy we must conquer in order to reach the "Promised Land" of our dreams and goals.

Everyone has fears - even the extraordinarily successful. So why then do some achieve their dreams while others do not? Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, "A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer."

A perfect picture to illustrate your wonderful note. Probably I shouldn’t say this, but now I can’t imagine the photo without this note. It has presented a strong character to the image. The forms, the texture and the dark hues: all that I loved from your vision. But it’s the earth’s scent I imagine when looking into it. Kind of breathless. Thanks for sharing this unusual view of our world.

Lucie, your words ring true. Very inspiring words on fear. A great note, for a great photo! I like the contrast in this little piece of sky, ranging from black to white. The photo leaves an entirely different impression after having read the note.
Thanks,
Ryan

Ahoj Lucie, velmi pekny obrazek boure, to diagonalni usporadani zvysuje dramaticnost obrazku. Moc se mi libi Tvoje obrazky. Vidim, za take hodne cestujes a nefotis jenom to, co vidis, ale premyslis o tom, co chces vyfotit. Jake to je dostat se jako Evropanka/Americanka do Iranu ? Musis chodit zahalena ? Rad bych se tam take podival. Hodne dalsich krasnych snimku preje Michael.

Ciao Lucie,

Hi Lucie,
I'm not sure what to say... you made an art work out of the simple shot of clouds.
Not a usual cloud formation (at least not in England), so that makes it even more interesting for me.
But differently toned layers and their diagonal edges make this shot graphically very appealing and mellow colours give softness to obviously dramatic moment of perception.
Btw, I've just realised I missed your stunning series from Iran to which I'll have to come back to have a closer look.
Hugs,
Robi

Hi Lucie!
Interesting dinamyc shape of clouds.I like the color tones from black to almost overburn.Very dramatic,
frightful,if you want.Good work.

Hello Lucie...

When I saw your picture, I tought: « Lucie in the sky, with diamonds...». But when I read your note, I have to say that it evoke more profound thinking... It’s even more striking when I saw where you’ve captured these clouds. From an occidental point of view, Iran represent more and more a menace, if we believe what newspapers are saying and then, this image become such a symbolic message!! When you add your text to your image, it’s a powerful statement!!

But from a photgraphic point of view, I have to say that this is truly unbelievable! Wow! Beauty in fear... The gradient shades are as amazing as the forms themselves. You did a tremendous job by catching this unusual clouds formation with such a special light!

Absolutely great image with a thoughful note.

Have a great weekend Lucie!

André

(It’s a good thing you didn’t post your photo the 6/6/06...) :-D)

An unusual and impressive picture, Lucie, and a great note! Even if the picture was crap, i would give you + for your note. But the picture is also great, so if it was permitted, you would get +++ :)

Have you tried painting? :)

This is an incredible sight. The fact that you actually stood below this storm and took this increble shot.
It seems you are well on your way to conquering fear.

Lucie,
I like these clouds, the shapes are showing a lot of energy inside ready to get off in a very harsh manner.
About your theme, the fear, you miss something: the fear to love.
I agree with the aim then: "Fear.... is the enemy we must conquer in order to reach the "Promised Land" of our dreams and goals.

Hi Lucie,

i think i have found your note very interesting...fear seems to act as our companion at times...personally i can not figure out if this is just a natural reaction towards the unknown or something the society benefits us with...this cloud of yours is a stunner...no need to fear it;-)...cheers, arturo

Very nice compo.......

It's funny that you add fear to this because usually DO fear something that we don't understand, but once you get to understand him, her, or it; things get much more relaxed. These are called mammatus clouds and you usually found on the back side of a thunder/supercell. Usually if you see these the storm has already passed. Great shot!!!! I love mammatus clouds.
