Palace Tower
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Novgorod is one of the oldest cities in Russia, and the first mentioning of its fortress dated back to year 1033. Fortress was repaired and rebuild several times, last time it happened in 1484, when Great Prince of Moscow Ivan III constructed here a circle of walls with 12 towers. Italian architects Antonio Solari and Alevis Fryazin seemed to take part in the building process.
Now 9 towers remain, this is Dvortsovaya (Palace) tower. It was named this because of Archbishop palace that once was near it. |
