Photographer’s Note
This is the Adalaj Step Well, near Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
These step wells are a marvel in ancient architecture. Huge pits are dug in a sloping manner, till the water level is reached and then an elaborate construction is done to reach the water in steps. Each level is carved and built with detail and precision. Depending on the level of the water table, one can descend to the required depth.
