Photographer’s Note
Segregation, apartheid, racism, indifference, whatever you name it, are common attitudes amongst animal races. Some rare examples of intelligent cohabitation might exist with pets sharing the same place, with farm animals and, I suppose, sometimes wildlife. But generally, it's "everyone for himself". That's what came immediately to my mind when I catched this scene where cormorans and gulls seem to ignore each other!
Taken from the Seine river bank. Birds are on one of the remaining piles from the old stone bridge.
Sunshine from behind, low on the horizon. Converted to b/w, brightness (+25) and contrast (+20) added on PSE. Sharpened.
Tech: I added the 1,7 X Sony teleconverter here on the original Zeiss lens (5X). All together, it corresponds to a 300 mm classical tele.

Very, very nice image.
I like it a lot. Simply beautiful. You were very smart to use Black and white here. Your composition and framing are also very nice.

I think the notes make this one Jean. While the sky does look very blown out to my eye, it serves to focus attention on the subject. i don't know that the gull flying over head adds, but neither does it really detract and serves to balance against the backgound.

I most like the strong contrast making the scene looking like a "collage", the silhouettes are very attractive, and the gull up there finishes the job! Lovely work Jean-Michel...
J'aime beaucoup le contrast accentué qui donne l'idée d'un "collage", les silhouettes sont agréablement dessinées sur l'arrière-plan clair, et la mouette là-haut est tout simplement parfaite! Joli travail Jean-Michel...

I like the subject very much. I find the title a bit depressing, though. Tried a WS with more space...

The note really adds to this picture. It's not just a shot of birds but a reflexion on animal and human attitude. It shows that images speak louder than words somethimes.
Very good observation and capture of this situation. You enhanced the message by posting it in B&W.
Technicall speaking I would just have appreciated a little more detail on the black rock.
