Photographer’s Note
The Great Stupa of Dharmakaya is its real name. It was built to honor Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, the one who founded Shambhala Mountain Center. I was told he is recognized for ‘bringing’ Buddhism to the west and making it relevant. He has written many books and is the founder of other things (the only thing I remember specifically is Naropa University).
The thing I loved about the stupa was the amount of symbolism and intricacy. Every measurement, shape, picture, color, object, everything is symbolic and precise. The work that went into it is insane, and it was all done by volunteers. I wish I could recall some of the interesting details, but there are so many I could go on all day… If anyone is interested the website is http://www.shambhalamountain.org.
About the photo… I like the POV that I have. It will probably drive some people nuts how crooked it is and none of the pieces are really complete, but I feel like I have found a new angle than the usual, symmetrical front view. I wish that the Buddha were less in shadow, but honestly it was the time of day and could not be helped. I do like that there is only stupa and sky, no mountains, trees, ground, etc, making it seem very airy. I don’t know… tell me what you think.

i agree, your choice of angle is quite good. i dare say, this is a better shot than your next shot of the line of prayer flags.it seems to be lacking something tho... like a shininess, glossiness.. stupas (at least the ones i've been to) always have a gleam about them.. is this a scanned image? if it is, that's a shame because the sparkle is what would have made this shot even better. great idea tho.. well done!
