Photographer’s Note
The "Wood Chop" is a tradition at country fairs in Australia. Probably a dieing art with all the environmental trends these days, all the wood is apparently recycled into the paper industry.
Still, the raw power and the nostalgic charm of man and environment without the aid of machinery is appealing and entertaining to watch.
This guy was the local hero at the competition. He had a handicap of 2 minutes behind any other competitor to climb the tree, and lop off the top. Exciting.
BTW... he lost by 2 ... and he had an attitide too ;)
If interested. I have added a WS of the event from a different angle. Unedited ... so be kind ;)

here we have great: a moment, a pose, an expression, colors. but the picture is abit too soft ans leaves in the background look not natural - but it is the camera...
anyway, very nice capture!

Good capture of the moment here, Chris: a lumberjack with an attitude. In addition to using his tool, it appears like he's trying to shout the tree down to the ground. Nice colors, even though mentioned by previous critics the background looks slightly blurred. But it's a good capture by any means!
P.S. I hope nobody was standing on the right.

it is an excellent capture showing so much efforts and emotion. the technically it is too exposed though.

Interesting and original subject Chris, I actually wonder if there even exists another picture with this motive here on TE ;-)
Both enjoyed your picture and your note, thanks!
