Photographer’s Note

I don’t like bowling. Now, don’t go thinking that’s because I don’t have the b*lls to play it. I do… well, I suppose I do, but I still don’t like neither the game, neither the atmosphere of these places. My children got a free “ride” from friends and there I went, a cross on my shoulder, to satisfy their perverse desire of going after a strike with a pair of balls.

It seems it is one of the oldest sports in the history of the world (bowling balls and pins were found in the tomb of an Egyptian king who died in 5,200 B.C.), with over 100 million people in more than 90 countries practicing the game. Wow. How exciting. We first have to put on a pair of shoes which remind me of low class golf shoes: cheap, hard leather, aesthetic to the eye, but rather uncomfortable.

Then, there’s a big room with several lanes side by side ( but I guess you all know this far better than I), multicoloured balls, and white pins. One has to throw the ball, be aware not to fall while doing it, and try to blow away a maximum of pins with a single throw. Nothing we can’t do with a Play Station, in the cosy atmosphere of our living-room.

A few beers later (because we’re supposed to drink beer and eat pop-corn in these places), I took my camera out of the bag and surrendered myself to another type of game. In the end, each one of us was pretty satisfied with what he got from the afternoon.
