Photographer's Note

Mihailgazi is a small town north of Eskisehir, Turkey. Obviously this is not the best sight from this otherwise lovely town. Not a good photo either. Some of you will indeed point out that the tractor parts ruin the photo. On the other hand this is a randomly taken photo of a slum part of the town with a lovely sky. My aim here with this photo is not to show the best there was there, but just an ordinary scene from a rural community where tractors are part of the life, the buildings are not built to satisfy aesthetic needs, but more to satisfy necessaties and usually the streets come much later than the buildings themselves. A city is a living organism, this is how it forms, how it grows. Usually not by absolute planning but random developments. 1000 years ago the streets around Notre Dame in Paris were like this, archaeology tells us; this goes true for all the major settlements and communities around the world.
