Photographer’s Note
The city of Senglea as seen at night from the heights of Valletta. This small city dates back to the middle ages and was one of the focal points in the great seige of 1565. Its position, overlooking the Grand Harbour, has got it involved directly in Malta's history, with its nearly complete destruction in WW2 during the infamous 'Illustrious' raids. The aircraft carrier was berthed in the creek, under the protection of the city's medieval fortifications and the city found itself directly in the trajectory of the falling bombs, thus sustaining widespread destruction. After the war, it was reconstructed and today it forms part of the distinctive vista of of Grand Harbour
