Photographer’s Note

These water points are often found near temple entrances in Japan, and I must confess I don't know if there is a symbolic dimension attached to them, I believe there must be one. On this one located at the Kyomizu-dera main temple entrance, I was amused of course by the dragon, coming from Europe I certainly have a different interpretation of a dragon's appeal and would not feel very confident about enjoying a drink offered by a dragon...

Cette photo me rappelle un vieux souvenir: je suis allée au Japon en 1963 (j'avais 2 ans) et mon père faisait plein de film 8mm à l'époque. Il y a une scène où je regardais fascinée les japonais qui buvaient avec ces gobelets à long manche!
Belle compo avec un max de symboles du pays du soleil levant: gobelets, dragon, temple, cerisiers en fleurs,... une véritable image pour catalogue de voyagiste!

D'habitude, les dragons crachent du feu, peut-être s'agit-il d'alcool blanc ! ;o))
Très belle présentation de cette fontaine un peu particulière, où effectivement, je resterai très prudent quant à la qualité de cette eau "divine" !

Ne t'inquiete pas les dragons asiatiques attirent l'eau ...
Par contre il y a un truc que je ne m'explique pas, comment arriver à boire de l'eau dans une ecuelle avec un manche d'au moins 1m de long ... y sont pas grands les japonais si je ne m'abuse ... alors les bras c'est proportionnel !
Pas convaincu par ton tilt (à moins que tu n'aies abuse de sake !) et une compo avec la MAP sur les ecuelles et le dragon legerement out of focus aurait été assez sympa, mais là je pinaille !

I recognise the middle kanji, that looks like '7k', as 'water' (eau). Good sharpness, color & perspective.

You've brought back good memories of my trip to Japan in 2000. Unfortunately I wasn't into photography at the time. :-( But this shot is wonderfully composed with the wooden bar upon which rest the cups leading us to the dragon. Beautiful and colourful backdrop too. Nice one.

La composition est excellente, Jean Yves, elle met en scène ce dragon pas si effrayant que ça qui surveille ces gobelets à long manche. La netteté et la profondeur de champ sur le premier plan sont au top.

Hi Jean Yves, I learned that you visited Japan from Norbert (nwoehnl). It looks that you had a good time there.
I visited Japan also at the end of last year. I have a photo to the same fountain. Someone was drinking the water. Please read Lauryn's (zig) critique to that photo (the third critique to that photo). She instructed us that the water is not for drink.
I like your PoV to include the red reflections to this fountain, which provides a some western culture interpolation to this picture.

But Ilike him, he looks very welcoming and friendly! :) Could be... hollowed water? Or something like? And the people drink it often?

I like the composition, but your horizon line is tilted, I'd suggest a tighter crop to the dragon and the fountain. Can't stop looking at the refelctions on the water. TFS!

Comme Norbert a parlé de votre rencontre au Japon, j'ai essayé de trouver une photo prise lorsque vous étiez ensemble... Il a fallut que je fouille les WS pour trouver celle-ci! ;) En tout cas, il a l'air bien impressionné par ta veste rouge cet animal ;)

I love the angle... different from the normal profile. The dragon makes me a little hesistant to want to wash my hands before entering the temple
