Photographer’s Note

The Shwedagon pagoda at sunset in Yangoon. The fist step of its erection took place in 588 BC. It is said it was set on eight hair from Sakyamuni (Buddha) by the Okkapala king.

The central stupa presented here is 100m high, covered from thin golden sheets and surrounded by dozens of white stuc or other golden stupas and many temples. On its top, there thousands of precious stones (4,035 diamonds among others).

As promised by the different guide books, the Shwedagon pagoda is a must when the night is falling over the City. There is an exceptionnal mood to discover when the different lights are being lit, Burmese are gathering around pagodas and temples to bring flowers, encens, candles. The atmosphere is absolutely magic.

Excellent light control.

Je ne vais pas énumérer tout ce qui a été réalisé avec talent pour obtenir ce résultat. Ca se savoure, et puis c'est tout.

Aaaah si.. j'ai trouvé un p'tit défaut.. il faudra nettoyer le capteur, Steven, on distingue de petites tâches dans la partie droite de l'image :-)

Beautiful late evening shot of the temple. The gold coloring all over the temple makes this image cool.
And the use of the small aperture value produces the lights in sparkling effect.

A very beautiful picture. I like the lights and the colors, ofcourse the pagoda is grand. you have caputred Shwedagon at the right time.

Simple composition with good effective contrast between the gold stupa and the backdrop of the cloudy skies. It looks like it doesnt belong there, with all the gray skies behind it...Well done!
