Photographer’s Note
This is in Coober Pedy,S.A. One of the two backpackers hostel in the village,(the best one!)and the one where i stayed. This is only the surface of the hostel because the dorms and all the rest lies about 40 feets deep underneath the hostel underground. When i left this hostel in 1998, they were dynamiting new rooms ( i worked on planting dynamite for an afternoon to pay my rent, will upload this picture later on) and everything inside is made of rock, there is even a bar! the facade of the hostel is white to reflect heat and if you look closely you can see the top of the rock under wich the hostel is built. The owners were very cool, and are billinguals (i mean speak Australian english and french also) ;-)they also have a small bus ( the white "van" on the right to pick you up and bring you around the city and desert surrounding and breakaway reserve.
