Skating path opened on the frozen lake Näsijärvi.
Shot from Pyynikki ridge, with plenty of zoom.
Somewhat cropped, I tried to find good composition of those curves and shadows.
Title Into the great wide open by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on the album with the same name, 1991.

What a great composition.
I like the fading color starting from light clue to dark blue and back to the light blue.
The curves are a good addition to that.
Polonaise (5802) 2006-04-06 7:26
You tried o find a good composition, and guess what?
You just did! A marvelous shot with all attributes belonging to a good, thoughtful photograph.
Theana (623) 2006-04-06 7:44
A great shot of a wonderful scene! The blue and white is nicely broken up by the small "dots" of the people walking on the lake and the curves look like some giant has slid down a hill. I really like this photo!
nicoz (1979) 2006-04-06 7:55
This is a very nice shot! The compo is excellent!
Good job, Nicolas

iGirl (1223) 2006-04-06 10:27
Hi Kari, I think you did a great job with the composition. The curving lines really draw my eyes into this picture, and the patches of sunlight provide variety and emphasis. Thanks for sharing!
lewiz (1297) 2006-04-06 11:08
This is absolutely stunning and I so very nearly missed it. I love the framing, the simple zig zag and the light playing across the snow. Beautiful work!
baba_flies (8829) 2006-04-06 12:02
Wonderful to have this space open for an afternoon of fun. It is a great picture which shows well the room you have on this lake. Really cool.
kebek (5438) 2006-04-06 12:37
Serwus Kari !
"... under them skies of blue" ? ;)
Extraordinary scenery, fantastic play of light on this vast space, vanishing track and no horizon visible - all for the amazing result.
tontonjc (6623) 2006-04-06 16:02
excellente image !! les couleurs et cette idée sont à pleurer .!!!
Un choix de cadrage et ces courbes sont un pur régal.
BrianGraney (1738) 2006-04-06 16:18
Excellent. You achieved your aims and a lot more.
Everything works here - and some of the figures look like little penguins to me!
The central yellow pole is a subtle touch.
vinicio (23423) 2006-04-06 17:02
Amazing curves Kari, beautiful colors and representation of yours daily life, I say: naif image, well done, compliments, really.

Hi my friend Kari,
I came back again. This is a fantastic capture. I like the graphism and the frame. Excellent colors, depth and sharpness. I also like the dark blue in this composition.

Very nice shot and good pov. I like very much.
svetoslav (318) 2006-04-19 9:48
This is wide open space looks to me exactly the way I imagine the South pole ( without the people of course ).
Very very well captured snow desert!!!
And the curves and the shadows are awesome.
sebinho342 (19317) 2006-04-20 4:26
Ahhh it's you that took this shot, i saw it when it was in gallery and i was pretty amazed by the beauty of it.
Now i comment it, i love the "human ants" following a trace in snow :))
Good job and great composition :)
david (3992) 2006-04-25 8:27
that's a very visually appealing shot. our eye is drawn along the line and we're compelled to watch it vanish into the distance. great shot. very well spotted!
pablominto (53744) 2006-04-25 8:33
Wow! This is awesome, didn't know you do things like this in Finland!
Aside from being surprised I find this a most appealing image! The curved track is amazing, and of course it is a good idea also for skaters since it is a lot more fun to do curves that what it is to do straight stretches..! That much I remember from my skating days, hehehehe!
Anyway, this is a fine and educational image and I like to see the people dotted all over!
Kirych (2703) 2006-04-25 8:37
Wonderful snow snake! Good compo and colors. I like bright figures! TFS. Tanya.
FORJP001 (3819) 2006-04-25 20:14
A skating path going milles and milles long, almost endless. The skater's delight.
This is one of your best pictures of your gallery.
Tracker (1942) 2006-04-26 9:10
Nice compo with carving snow road. Especially like the contrast between light and shadowed snow. Thanks.
capthaddock (28790) 2006-04-26 10:58
Hi Kari - this is brilliant, fantastic geometry, the zigzag path has a dramatic visual impact.
sarju (5324) 2006-05-24 3:37
That is definitely a very vast landscape.
I love this photo ... Summers have still not reached the part of Canada I am living in and this photo almost makes me nostalgic for the winters ... the crisp cold air ... snow ... everything frozen (winters are beautiful too).
I like the gradient of colour in this photo.
thanks for sharing this photo
cheers ... sarju
fredon (5052) 2006-08-01 5:13
Wow Amazing design, curves, snow colors and very good thing to have the small humans to give the scale!
Leia74 (843) 2006-08-08 5:01
Wow I love this shot. The shadows that give the snow that blue color, and so you get some sort of "stripes" alternating blue and white, and the curve that crosses the stripes, and the small people to give the scale, the light. Everything is perfect!
brevbrev14 (140) 2006-08-18 8:25
NIce to meet you Kari, i saw for the first time your works and I LOVE this graphic image!!beautiful POV and colours with the ice road that game in the snow!!
tsangclare (130) 2006-08-23 7:02
Amazing!I like the colours and the composition! The tiny people really show a distinct contrast with the enormous skating path! Well done!
stefi (1230) 2006-08-24 12:36
Hi Kari, great idea with this shot! I appreciate the composition using the curves and the different tones of white.
gezgin37 (3766) 2006-10-06 18:11
Surely it's one of your best photo. Beautiful ice curves with people around it. Excellent composition, super shot!
shirgold (2481) 2006-10-11 13:48
Soon you'll have these views again...
Very nice and abstract image - the winding path on the lake is great - without the people it could have been very interesing as well.
TFS - Shir
krzbia (397) 2006-10-23 12:39
The view is incredible. It looks like a giant serpent went there :-) "Plenty of zoom" made it bit difficult to judge the distance so it looks like it is simply endless!
lule-jan (274) 2006-11-25 11:24
Wow...thats is a beutiful shot.
The clouds shadow makes this photo more alive and intresting.
roconnell (327) 2006-11-25 11:32
The vastness of the open space is wonderfully captured here and the skaters add a sense of scale that would otherwise be missing. Gorgeous composition. Well done.
himalayantrails (30) 2006-11-25 11:56
Thats awesome...really...the proportions are well understood by your moment of clicking....
greecelightning (284) 2006-11-28 12:10
Great clarity and lighting! I like how the snow is undisturbed outside of the trail. Nice work!
neilwade (147) 2006-12-15 5:48
Beautiful. Everything looks perfect to me.
sadeik (3268) 2007-01-17 16:18
Thats a great shot, reminds me of TS Lowery but no industrial sites to be seen. I think the cloud shadow breaks up the bright snow effectively
lucinka (9976) 2007-02-14 7:33
Hallo Kari, this photo of yours has caught my attention some time already, but I probably didn’t have time to comment on it. I was impressed with its simplicity and peaceful appeal created by those lovely white / blue tones. The very smooth feel is created by those beautiful curves on the snow. Presence of people just give us feeling of scale. Very lovely work. Lucie
biswarup (716) 2007-02-28 4:29
Great composition Kari.
tobourge (971) 2007-03-02 5:09
Impressive shot! You've nicely captured the contrast between the blueish snow and the white path curves.
Thus the poeple really gives us an amazing idea of the space.
Bruno40 (6658) 2007-09-07 5:18
Amazing photo, what a great framing and DOF.
Exposure is perfect.
mikeo (12129) 2007-10-24 5:15
