Photographer’s Note
Inchgarvie Island lies in the Firth of Forth outside the city of Edinburgh. The castle was first built here in 1490 as a defensive site for the protection of territory upstream from the city. The castle became a state prison from 1519 to 1671 and was later refortified to protect bridges built over the Firth.
This photo was taken in the morning while touring the city of South Queensferry. Unfortunately, I left my tripod in the hotel room and had only my monopod with me. The ruins are quite dramatic and reminded me of Alcatraz in San Fransisco. I waited a while for the sailboat to get more in frame then shot several photos. I cropped the photo horizontally to isolate the island from the scenery in the background and highlight the cliffs.
