Photographer’s Note
This was thaken at theHafezieh shiraz.
Hafiz (1325?-1389?), Persian poet, born in Shīrāz (now in Iran) into a poor family. Originally named Mohammed Shams od-Din, he gained the respectful title Hafiz, meaning “one who has memorized the Qur'an (Koran),” as a teacher of the Qur'an. He was a member of the order of Sufi mystics and also, at times, a court poet. His poems on one level celebrate the pleasures of drinking, hunting, and love at the court of Shīrāz. On a deeper level, according to some scholars, they reflect his consuming devotion as a Sufi to union with the divine. They also satirize hypocritical Muslim religious
Hafiz's work, collected under the title of Divan (trans. 1891), contains more than 500 poems, most of them in the form of a ghazal, a short traditional Persian form that he perfected. Each consists of up to 15 highly structured rhyming couplets dealing with one subject. The language is simple, lyrical, and heartfelt. Hafiz is greatly admired both in Iran and, in translation, in the West. Especially appealing are his love for the common person and his relation of daily life to the search of humanity for the eternal.
hope you like it.
thanks asana

Lovely composition Asana and great contrast of colours. The eye is lifted towards heaven, as it was originally intended by the architects, but here you encourage that to happen through your centrally placed column. Inpirational. Salaam.

Hej Asana,
You chose a very good POV for this picture. The colour is wonderful and very strong and the orange contrasts nicely with the blue in top. Very well done!

Hi Asana,
I like this way of looking at things. Very recognizable, but also very abstract. Great contrast between the red column and the mosaic in the ceiling.

Hi Asana,
I like this pic for a number of reasons: the colors are beautiful and saturated, the pov makes for a very interesting picture, it is abstract and the exposure is just right. I love how black the night sky is. Finally, your note was very interesting and informative. The only thing that could be improved is the design up above (as it is not so sharp and detailed). That's about it!
I listen to Hindi and Urdu ghazals, and I've been told that the Indian ghazal is a descendant of the Middle Eastern ghazal. I'd love to know the history there and I wonder if the structure is the same (15 rhyming couplets). Very interesting...
