Photographer’s Note

This is a picture of the Tall Ship Race in 1992. The last leg of this race, from Zeebrugge to Amsterdam, was preceded by a parade from Zeebrugge to the mouth of the Schelde river and back to Zeebrugge. I followed this parade on board of my Rasmus 35 "Festina Lente".
Iöage scanned, levels and usm in Photoshop and a bit of cleaning in Neatimage.

Wow! Stunning shot. It looks like a painting . . . I'm guessing as a result of the Neatimage. The ship is sharp and clear and the sky is nicely smooth. The water, however, especially right up close to the bottom of the frame is a little too smooth for my tast. I'd like to see a little more sharpness there.

I fully agree with Mimi. Both on the fact that it lookslike a painting and that the water is a bit to soft at the bottom of the photo. I also wonder, how far awa is that other tiy boat. It makes the shipn look huge, unreal even.

Dit is een van je zo talrijke goede foto's John en het is een hele mooie. Ja ik hou van oude zeilschepen. Ja ik hou van varen, Ja, goede composition, Nee ik vind niet dat je er nog wat rechts af moet snijden. Dat zou de diepte verminderen en dus het resultaat ook. Erg goed werk John

Magnificent view of this tall ship John.Many of these tall ships visited Quebec City about 20 years ago and I recall how impressive it was to see them "in the flesh" as it were.
Your composition and framing made me think this would be an excellent proposal for a stamp...not that I am an avid stamp collector any longer:-)

Perfect work, John. Very nice subject and composition. After NeatImage sky looks overmuch soften, and some non-natural. First my impression was that it is a ship's model on the background with painted sky. Hovewer very good picture.

I agrree with mimi And ZTO, but still, a stunning shot, John. It looks like a painting andthis is a beautiful ship. Very well done and framed.
You could apply NI on the sky only. That way you'll not spoil the sea and the ship's sharpness.
Peronally I don't like to use NeatImage. It ruinns the depth, but here you gor a very nice result. Well done, John (and framed, and note).

John, like a postcard. This is a great shot of a beautiful tallship. The scan is very good. The red of the wooden masts is great. Ans i see every detail of the side of the ship. The boat on the right makes some dept. Do you no wich ship it was? I hope i'll see more of this kind.

Elle est magnifique cette photo franchement j'adore le cadre qui la met en valeur.

Technically speaking it is made a success. The effect of traiments in PS and NI made of this photo a remarkable image. Colours are magnificent and the excellent composition.
Techniquement parlant c'est réussi. L'effet des traiments dans PS et NI ont fait de cette photo une remarquable image. Les couleurs sont superbes et la composition excellente.

Amazing. The softness in the photo gives it a 3D feel and at the same time plays with the viewer's sense of scale. Fantastic lighting and composition. Very Well done.

Dear John,
I just love sailing ship and usually I would go over the detail. But there is something I don't understand.

Why is the legend on the photo say "Tall Ship Race - 1982" but your note say "This is a picture of the Tall Ship Race in 1992".

You see I read Photographer's Note to understand the picture better.Even though a picture is worth a thousand words, but what the photographer says, is worth a lot more.

Superbe prise de vue... un éclairage et un cadrage adéquat ici. La voilure est magnifiquement mis en valeur avec les diagonales des voiles d'étais et la coque est superbe avec les jeux de lumière et d'ombres ! :o)
