Photographer’s Note
Waikiki #1.
I took this image in 2004 when my wife and I visited Hawaii. We weren't supposed to see this sunset. Our flight the night before was overbooked and the airline put us up in a hotel near this spot. It was well worth the sacrifice (can you hear the sarcasm?).
Waikiki, Oahu has a very different feel from where we'd been (Princeville, Kauai and Kaanapali, Maui). The beaches were really crowded and it had a more urban feel. This sunset made extra night worth it (...the first class upgrade didn't hurt).
I shot several images along the beach during this sunset. I'll have to post some of the others in coming days.
The reason I led with this image is it was selected by Relevant Magazine to be their cover in May/June 2005. I've posted the magazine cover in a workshop.
This image is only one of two that I've sold. And, ironically, it has never been my favorite from the trip.

I enjoy how my eye is continually drawn to the head in the water. it seems like the light might be coming from or for that dude....ie: Cocoon of 1980's fame.
but the simple composition and the muted colors are really nice here. I also like the Relevent mag cover too. A green tint is nice

This photo has some nice drama in the sky, Trey! The very high contrast, shooting into the sun, works nicely. I also like the figures in the water.
