Photographer’s Note
Camel Crossing at Nad Al Sheba
Dubai is no more a place of the past. With the developments that have turned the once traditional Bedouin lifestyle into one of the most advanced cities in the world today, seeing such scenes of daily life is a little more than just the past.
Probably the only place in Dubai that has preserved the Bedouin lifestyle of breeding camels is at Nad Al Sheba, at the outskirts of the city. The little town has a couple of camel race tracks, loads of camel pens and camel veterinary hospital. But above all, it is home to the Nad Al Sheba Horse Race Course, which is the proud venue of the World’s Richest Horse Race – the Dubai World Cup, which is a $ 6,000,000 event (sponsored by the Dubai-based Emirates Airlines).
All the camels are taken for their routine morning walks and course runs around Nad Al Sheba, during which they would have to occasionally cross the roads. This picture was taken at one such crossing. The wait for a relatively large herd was really worth it, I suppose!

Funny scene, the sign does not lie !!
That brings you a bit in the past, but contrast with modern life.
I also like the big sign in the forground.
Nice picture.

Excellent composition, Nivas. I like how you included the sign, and your POV making the sign just in front of all the camels. A great shot, and an interesting note too.
A minor composition note: I think it would be nice if the top of the sign was not cropped off.

Great composition! I agree with Matt that the top of the sign would have been nice, but that probably would have meant a higher top-down angle. Hopefully you took a few shots of this great scene. TFS!

Hello Nivas,
thanks for this original shot !!
It just seems to me you used heavy postprocessing or at least heavy noise reduction, the image seems very smooth, like a painting (and this can be a nice effect too if this was your will). Besides you cut a bit of the upper "camel sign".
Anyway great shot, great colors, great pov.
TFS

Alberto.

Hi Nivas. Great composition with the camel riders standing out from the big sky. The sign makes this photo. It puts the camels into context and gives a humorous touch. Well done.

hi nivas
the pov of this picture is great. you've framed the camels not alone in the environment, but with the signage which is one important factor about your thought process while doing photography...a good approach towards this art. well done..tfs...

This is a funny and interesting shot, well framed (altough I agree on the cropped sign) and with a wonderful array of vivid colors. That absolutely blue sky is so pure!
Waiting pays, as you note that you waited a while for this herd of camels. For being a good fotographer, one has to forget the clock!

Yes I agree, Nivas, it was really worth waiting for this shot. The camels are perfectly positioned and I like the simplicity of your composition. Your f/18 aperture works well here. Cheers . . . David

Sometimes I see crossing signs for all kinds of different animals in the weirdest places
I guess sometime it pays off to head the warnings
Great picture
I only wish you got the very tip of the sign in the picure
Cheers

Yup, you are so right, the wait was worth it. the composition was well seen in advance and waiting paid out. It is not only a camel crossing place but camels are crossing/ meeting - the caravan going to the right and the single camel going the left.
Well seen, Nivas!

Hi Nivas,
Great Shot, very good composition.
The road sign one would not see but in the middle eastern countries where the travel was main mode of transportation and moving logistics.. until mid 1950's.. they still remain part of the life here in middle east..
very sharp image ..congrats..
today we will be visiting Nad al Sheba.. Dubai
cheers Paddyrags
