Thanks to Jennifer Spence, whose excellent daylight photo of our Commonwealth Fish reminded me about this one I took last week.

This is one of 72 fish representing the 71 competing nations at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, held this week in Melbourne. They are made of steel and aluminium, and each is a fairly accurate copy of fish found in every nation at the Games. Each night, on the hour, there is a wonderful light and water show along the Yarra River, where all 72 are moored nose-to-tail.

It was too dark to read the sign explaining which nation's fish this was, but it's not ours - which is an eel...

Wow - there are 72 of those? Any way to capture a number of them in 1 shot?
I like the vivid colors and the reflections created on the water. Very clear, too, considering the night time conditions.
Cheers,
dave

Hi Simon

Wonderful sharpness & color. It looks like something from Expo '88 in Brisbane. But 2006 is Melbournes' turn to party & showcase the city to the world. Well done!

Hi Simon - I haven't been on TE much the past few days so I've just discovered this one of yours. It's fantastic - wonderful colour, contrast and sharpness. The angle is good and you've managed to get nice and close. We were there on Saturday night with 3 billion other happy people (felt like it anyway) and it was a lovely sight. Thanks for posting this one, and thanks for the reference in your note:)

Very good capture indeed. Thanks for sharing :)

Beautiful night landscape, compliments to the architect of the lights, and compliments to you too, great colors and composition.
Ciao

Great shot Simon. I was there for the spectacle, took some shots but nothing as clear and dramatic as yours. The 2 secs did the job. The water has been tranformed into something mysterious too. Regards, Klaudio

Very interesting colours - i like it very much. Good work
