Photographer’s Note

Welcome to the overhanging cliffs at Laugerie Basse... (near Les Eyzies) The overhead cliffs shelter the more modern dwellings than the adjacent caves once occupied by 'Cro-Magnon man'.

The tourist sign was shot as a 'lesser of 2 evils', by moving right to obscure the sign there is an even bigger sign, obviosly there is a workshop opportinity for a clone or 2.

Photograph was sized, cropped and framed for TE.

etonante image que ce rocher collé à la maison ou plutôt le contraire ! Ca a au moins l'avantage de faire moité moins de tuiles à poser !!

Original picture of a famous site (I was allured by the title which rmeinded me of reading about the history of mankind a long time ago). some more contrast would have benn helpfull.

Etonnante utilisation du rocher pour y accoler cette maison....il a fallu que je regarde à deux fois pour bien comprendre la situation.Peut être aurais tu pu te décaller un peu à droite lors de la prise de vue pour masquer la pancarte? Cliché très intéressant en tout cas

Hi Tim,
I didn't know this place... I lost it. I have been from those parts a couple of years ago (Bordeaux, Periguex, Langon for "Les Nuits Atypiques", La Reole for a concert de Les Hurlements d'Leo... etc).
I would have tried to remove from the photo the touristic sign and accented the colors, however the shot is very interesting and good with the rocks both above that under to surround the houses

Très impressionant ! le point de vue est très bien choisi pour ce sujet très intéressant et original.
J'aurais tenté de garder l'entièreté du panneau qui mentionne la grotte, mais bon, ce n'est pas toujours aussi facile qu'il parait.
Joli cliché, bien vu !

Hi Tim. Never saw anything like this before; you would almost think it is set up! The houses seem so fragile against that giant cliff. Good pov; well seen and taken.

Wow! This is absolutelly marvellous! This place should definitelly add to my vacation itinery. Its bad that I've already ended my vacation this year :-(

Hi Tim,
What an amazing shot! Never seen anything like this before...I think I would live in constant fear of being crushed if I lived in one of those houses. At the very least I would feel very claustrophobic! I would like to see a shot from further away, just to put it all in perspective. I think the sign is fine where it is...in reality, it was there, so I think it should be left well alone. Anyway, it adds something to the composition. Best wishes, Vicky

An amazing photo of an amazing natural feature in which man has intruded in a spectacular way.
Well taken and presented.
Regarding the sign, I am a firm believer in presenting an TE what we would expect to see if we visited the subject place so removal of the sign would make a perfect photo but an imperfect representation.
