Photographer’s Note

A Blue Heron fishing on the Oregon Coast. It was a very amazing sight when this bird started to take off and fly....reminded me of a prehistoric bird. I took many shots of him to get this one.....but I think it was worth it. The Oregon Coast gets such a bad rap for rain and wind as you can see from the date of the photo.....you couldn't tell it was in the middle of Winter. This particular beach is also very good hunting for Sand Dollars. This is the second posting of this photo. I enhanced it just a bit to help with the problem of it looking out of focus. I just sharpened the image a bit. This subject caught me off guard and taking a photo of him with a large lens with no tripod set up was quite difficult. I still like the photo and have learned to be bring my tripod every time I go out shooting nature....=0)

Bettina, nice shot but it looks like you've cropped heavily to get this picture. If you're going to take shots of fast moving critters, you'll need to 'beef up' and get used to hand-panning as a tripod can slow you down. Paul.

Black on white. Very effective capture of the heron with good note. Having the white foam as background is very effective. Good work from this POV.

Hi Bettina,
Beautiful shot of this mejestic bird in flight. I see many blue herons while kayaking but they are rather shy and hard to get close to. I read somewhere that the average weight is only 5 lbs.
