Photographer’s Note
This is the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey. I understand this is one of the largest Mosques in the world, second only to the mosque in Mecca (please correct me if any of this info is incorrect).
The artitecture is beautiful and the Mosque is juxtaposed to the Hagia Sophia, another huge and beautiful church.

Sultanahmet Mosque
This mosque was built by Sultan Ahmet I during 1609-1616 in the square carrying his name in İstanbul. The architect is Sedefhar Mehmet Ağa. It is the only mosque in Turkey with six minarets. The mosque is 64 x 72 m in dimensions. The central dome is 43 m in height and is 33.4 m in diameter. 260 windows surround the mosque. Due to its beautiful blue, green and white tilings it has been named the "Blue Mosque" by Europeans. The inscriptions were made by Seyyid Kasım Gubari.

Actually there are two mosques claiming they are the largest...:The Shah Faisal Mosque near Islamabad, Pakistan, can accommodate 100,000 worshippers in the prayer hall and courtyard and a further 200,000 in the adjacent grounds. The total area of the complex is 47 acres, with the covered area of the prayer hall taking up 1.19 acres....and then...The Hasan II Mosque (opened in 1993) which is situated in Casablanca , Morocco. It's said that it is the largest mosque in the world. No doubts it has the tallest minaret in the world, with its 210 metres (689 ft). Hmm... it's like almost 70 storey skyscraper.so lets see if more info comes!!! great picture of a much photographed subject!!
