Right before Christmas Photo

Photographer’s Note

5 kilometers from Moscow there is the less known monastery of Saint Nikolas which is named Nikolo-Ugreshsky. During the Soviet era in was closed and the labor commune was esteblished on its place. Nowadays it was reopened and restored. Here on the shot you can see two main churches of monastery. The big one is Transfiguration Cathedral (1866-80) while the red construction is Assuption church, the oldest church of monastery (built in 1763). Hope you enjoy it.

Another very picture! However I would have tried to leave a bit more space next to the blue cupola on the left. It is too close to the edge. You were unlucky to have a white sky in my view, but there's not much you can do about that!

A lovely vertical framing that focuses on the domes, certainly the most spectacular part of this monestery, the snow covered branches add the winter fairy to this view, I'm just wondering considering the dull sky why you did not frame lower to get less sky and include the entrance ?

Очень приятная фотография, чувствуется опытный глаз. Композиция выстроена четко: никаких лишних деталей. В то же время рамки фотографии не обрезают никаких важных фрагментов. Возможно, было бы неплохо с более синим небом, но тогда, есть шанс, что потерялись бы купола. Также складывается впечатление, что у камеры выставлена на максимум резкость. В целом, очень хорошая фотография.

Nikolo-Ugreshsky Monastery is a beautiful place in any weather and you managed to show this beauty very well. Maybe I'll post an autumn photo taken almost from the same point :)

Hi Tanya - beautiful architecture combined with wintry conditions make an irresistably attractive photo, I like how the golden dome stands out. I think this monastery was on the cover of the guidebook I used, made me want to visit it but I didn't have time.
