The English Church

Normally I don't post many photos in B&W, but today I do, cause I think it suits this picture well.
It is again a picture from the part of Copenhagen called Kastellet.

The church in the background is Den engelske Kirke (The English Church) or the Saint Alban's Church. It was built between 1885-1887 and it belongs to the English community in Danmark. The church was designed by A.W. Bloomfield. Apart from the link above, here's another picture of this church: Gefionspringvandet.

The statue in the foreground, also visible in my first picture from this area, is placed outside Kastellet, in Churchillparken (The Churchill Park).
The statue was made after the Second World War in memorial to the Danes who joined the Allied army.
The inscription says:

Vore faldne
i dansk og allieret krigstjeneste
1940 - 1945

Rejst af det danske folk

The statue is a soldier in English uniform and was raised by Foreningen de Allieredes Våbenfæller in 1960. It is made by Sven Lindhard.

I hope you like this picture.
