Photographer’s Note
The English Church
Normally I don't post many photos in B&W, but today I do, cause I think it suits this picture well.
It is again a picture from the part of Copenhagen called Kastellet.
The church in the background is Den engelske Kirke (The English Church) or the Saint Alban's Church. It was built between 1885-1887 and it belongs to the English community in Danmark. The church was designed by A.W. Bloomfield. Apart from the link above, here's another picture of this church: Gefionspringvandet.
The statue in the foreground, also visible in my first picture from this area, is placed outside Kastellet, in Churchillparken (The Churchill Park).
The statue was made after the Second World War in memorial to the Danes who joined the Allied army.
The inscription says:
Vore faldne
i dansk og allieret krigstjeneste
1940 - 1945
Rejst af det danske folk
The statue is a soldier in English uniform and was raised by Foreningen de Allieredes Våbenfæller in 1960. It is made by Sven Lindhard.
I hope you like this picture.

Hi Lars, I enjoy this well composed picture with nicely line up of the solider statue and the church tower. It is interesting to see the soldier in guarding with the church. Excellent contrast and nice depth. Well doen.

Hi Lars
The quality of this photograph is exceptional. I like the composition to. I didn't know there was much of an English population in Danmark. Thanks for showing us this. The composition is a great statement with war and peace juxtaposed. Very clever and well seen.

Hello Lars, good shot. I'm always interested in war memorials, I find them captivating, tragic and defiant. This is a good view with the soldier bowing toward the church. Great shot.

Bonjour Lars,
Bravo!

Hey Lars. You're right you don't do much b/w. For not doing many it's very good. The contrast is what I have the most trouble with when doing the PP on my b/w shots but it looks like yours is just fine. This is a most successful b/w shot Lars.

Hej Lars,
Excellent composition of this statue and church. The POV is very well chosen and the B&W is a fine choice. Good manage of lighting. The pose of the English soldier works marvellously with the position of the church and the balance between them is perfect. Congratulations!

This is a fantastic composition Lars; the soldier of the War Memorial overlooking the church is so "right" somehow, even though there is perhaps a dichotomy between the two. I agree with you that the B&W conversion is suited to the image. Superb work

Hi Lars,
The B&W format works well with this intriguing shot. I like your POV, with the statue and the church nicely in balance. I was not aware of this memorial, and find it quite moving. The clarity and lighting are superb. Well seen and captured.

Hej Lars,
This one is really nice, I like the perspective, it almost gives one the impression that the statue is larger than it is, it almost looks like the soldier is looking down on the church. I also like his posture, like guarding the church and the environments. The B&W mode works pretty nice here. Well done!

Hi Lars,
You have made the right decision here as the many planes and the different angles they are placed allow the viewer to enjoy the wide range of tones which you managed very beautifully. I also like this good composition where both are trying to attact our attention but at the same time we can sense their unity and harmony. Well done!! Regards.

Hi Lars - the 2 different subjects make an interesting combination, the partial lighting works well especially with the statue, the BW makes it more artistic, optimal sharpness level
