Photographer’s Note
I took my first trip to Italy in 1997. I went on a culinary tour in Tuscany. The first day of the trip was a tour of the Mercado Centrale in Florence with our instructor/chef Judy Witts Francini. It was an incredible experience. We saw the wonders of Italian cuisine layed out before us in magnificent presentations and the men and women behind the counters or in the stalls were thrilled to show us what they were selling with pride and smiles. Later in the week we went to a smaller market in Florence where I spotted these wonderful men selling dried meats. Their smiles were so engaging and their charm was -- well, what can I say about the male Italian charm? :)
This shot was taken with m old Canon Rebel G and the photo was scanned in with a first generation consumer scanner, so the quality leaves a lot to be desired. The original is glued into a scrapbook, so there's no going back now.
I love these guy's smiles and was hoping to come across them again on my next culinary adventure, but this photo will have to continue to be m memory of "the men of hte market."
