[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
These three guys were taken at my local pub in the last hour of the last day of 2005 - they were having a contest to see who could project a fireball the highest - they must have done this five or six times before we could pick a clear winner. Although they've been around since the year dot - firebreathing and poi and staff work are becoming more and more popular - it's a world wide phenomena as young people hit beaches and festivals - even I've been roped into doing it ......but I'm more inclined to watch and take the photos now I think!

These guys were a little crazy - friends of some of my other crazy friends who do things with fire - at least one head went up in flames - briefly!! As you can see a little cramped compositionally but it was either this or nothing at all because of the constrictions of the environment.

Hi Kev, fantastic shot. it remember me the show of La Fura dels Baus! (the one of the 80's! not the mega shows of today!)
great POV, very low, excellent vertical composition, light and contrast.
brialliant and perfectly captured.
thanks, and have a nice w.e.
ciao

hi kev, i tried to do some "massaging" of the contrast trying to see a little less details of the men, like less visible legs;
but finally i find that this is a perfect exposure for this image, and perfect contrast;
shot of power;
very nice,
best wishes, j.

Hi Kev.
Excellent shot. I like the same position on the 3 guys and this fire in the center and on the top.
Excellent vertical framing and a good light capture.
Very good compo.
Fred

Hello Kev

nice interplay between the dark areas and the firelit areas,
very nicely captured action
Well done

Just awesome. One of your most dramatic shots. I like the distribution of the people according to the rule of thirds, the verticality of the frame that is well filled by the people and fire. But most of all the mood here is so damn cool..I mean HOT.

Hi Kev,
A spectecular action shot!Well composed and framed with a good choice for the vertical format.Perfect timing too.
Greetings,
Hermann

Superb capture, Kev. As you know I'm a big fan of the "vertical" (though I'm ging t'other way today...) and this is a fine example of how to fill a vertical frame. The timing, separation of these three demons, the height of the flames, everything is perfect. Great stuff!
Francis

Hi Kev. Wow, whata dramatic shot, very intense with all this fire and the stark postures of the men. Great lighting from the fire and good timing. Nice also that the height of the flames is in ascending order. Great work.

AMAZING PICUTRE, Kev!
Great timing and capture, stopping the fire and flames while bursting! With such low lighting, you must have pushed to high ISO, but how did you managed to use a fast enough shutter speed to stop the flame movement?
Superb picture, Kev! A favorite indeed!!

Wow! Fascinating photo, with great color and timing. Nicely synchronized. Looks like a fun event.

A good shot under the circumstances - well captured flames - rather them than me!

really a unique shot.
very well timed and the lighting is great. I like the water drops falling as the fire is going up. Seems full of "the elements". I like the cramped compo, makes it feel very alive.
great shot

Hi Kev.
I really think you've been to hard on yourself. The picture is fantstic, there is such a good alignment of the crazy people and you can even sense the power of each flame by the light it throughs around. The frame is nicely filled with the main actors and the main actor called FIRE.

all the best, Aleks

beatiful catch.. you are very good at catching these events Kev..timing and composition are superb, so is exposure..
i also find the vertical format perfect here..
Good one as usual..you are definitely one of the best 'event' photographer on TE my friend..
best wishes.

Awesome !!
North to south
West to east
One of the most dramatic shots existing on TE
Perhaps...most dramatic.

I was just lead here through Brady's link...he's going to hate me for leaving his picture to come and comment on yours. That will teach him to use the "open in new window tag"....!

WOW KEV! This is every bit as dramatic as you could have anticipated. The long framing and the power of three makes all the difference! My only regret here is the guy on the right...I wish his flames were as big as the other two's...oh well - we cant have everything!

av-jo...(you should know what that means!)
