[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Another participant in the Hindu festivities of Thaipusam last weekend.

This devotee was awaiting assistance in having the metal skewers and piercings removed. Note the attachment of the metal frame to his stomach (It's attached the same way to his back).
The small containers attached to his upper arms and to his upper thighs contain offerings of what I believe is milk.

I hope you like it,
- Dan

Hmm, that is indeed a spectacular construction. The image is very informative but artistically not your strongest. The sharp background distracts a bit from the complicated device and the subject appears rather lifeless. Not that I could have done it better, portrait photography is tough business!

Very interesting subject and a good job of framing it from an interesting angle. Thanks also for the interesting note! I agree with Roland that the pic is a little hard to 'read' due to the fact that the detailed background is so sharp. It would have been good to use the DOF to make your subject standout more. But of course this is extreemely hard to do outside of a studio in the midst of all the action. So, very good job given the working conditions!

Salut Dan,
C'est une photo trés intéressante voir lègèrement effrayante, j'aime beaucoup son cadrage et ces couleurs, originale.
Amicalement,
Emilie.

Even with your explanation I am not sure I can get my head around what this guy is doing, however it is so totally different to western eyes that this alone makes it a great shot.In addition it is technically spot on and the low angle really helps emphasise the mans size

i am surprised the man did not burst like a flat tyre with all those piercings... haha! He sure had some fresh material for piercings! quite frankly, although it is of religious matter, i do not see the point in this ceremony... can you explain me again please...? thanks for sharing these photos and let us see another reality.
