Photographer’s Note
We just came across this moose, eating aside a dirt road. SHE seemed unimpressed by my presence; although I didn't test things by getting out of the truck. My husband swears it's male because it's so big but I don't see any horn bumps. I have another photo of a more distant moose with horn bumps. The males shed their antlers in the winter and this early in the season, they're just starting regrow. Isn't it amazing that every year they are able to grow such a huge rack?
More than any other place I visited in Alaska, moose seemed very much a part of life in Soldotna. The local grocery store had a picture of three moose trying to come into the store during a storm the previous winter. There were signs posted along the roads, asking motorists to be careful and listing the number of moose killed by cars thar season. The totals varied widely; so I'm unsure if the some were more up-to-date than others or if they were totals for that specific section of roadway. If they were section specific, I'm surprised there is a moose left alive in Alaska. Of course when crossing the Nullabor, I counted 548 dead kangaroo; to be fair, most had been there a long time. I also read that more people were killed by moose every year in alaska, than by bear. I'm guessing that would be auto accidents.

Hello Patricia,
un animal bizarre que je n'avais encore jamais vu, il semble faible, craintif et fragile.
Sa couleur fauve tranche bien avec les verts derrière, techniquement une belle photo que j'aime beaucoup.
Regards.
Daniel.

Hello Patricia,
Wonderful photo! The colors are so fresh and the fur of the moose so smooth. I can even see the reflection in the eye of the moose.

Hi Patricia, You have done an excellent job to capture this close up picture. Looking at the shy expression of the creature, it looks that the camera clicking could scare this giant animal. I don’t think the moose would attach and kill people. I agree with your guess of the human death would be caused by accidents. Nice details and excellent capture. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting picture of this beautiful animal.
Hope it's not dangerous for him to come so close to humans...

Bonsoir Patricia,
Très jolie rencontre et très belle capture. J'aime beaucoup ce regard expressif de l'animal qui s'interroge sur ta présence.
La photo est légèrement surexposée. J'ai fait un WS sans trop connaître la couleur de sa robe.

Excellent quality on this one; the moose really stands out from the frame, yet there is plenty of detail in the foliage too. The moose is giving you the eye - well captured.

I am glad you were so close to this great animal without actually hitting it with your car.
It's a great priviledge from you being there and enjoying the scenery.
Thank you for sharing your thought with TE.

Hi Pat,
I'd like to comment on this today, since the moos hunting season is starting here now!
Which means it is dangerous to trek around in the forest, as some of them shoot at anything that moves...
Not to talk about the poor moose, but I have to admit the meat is very tasty!
This one is nicely framed, and captured with good colours and fine details!
By the way, ours seem to be darker in colour, more like grayish...
Greetings,

I love to see moose in the wild but only if I am at a safe distance from them. They are huge and I would really hate to ever run over one of them on a highway. Moose is very common in Canada too but what I see the most whenever I venture into the wild is elk. Good tasty meat from moose but definitely not a pet!
