Photographer’s Note
I will take a short break from my travelogue on the Hawaiian Islands and will post a more recent picture taken "at home". Probably less informative than the images featuring lava and volcanoes, this one is certainly more eye catching.
Taken in picture-perfect weather from Highway 1A, known as the Bow Valley Parkway, which runs parallel to the Trans Canada Highway between Banff and Lake Louise, on the other side of the Bow River. The three prominent peaks in the background are, from left to right, Haddo, Saddle and Fairview. Behind them is Lake Louise, and further back and to their right, nestled between the other three peaks, are Lake Agnes and the Lake Agnes Teahouse.
This location, right on the highway, offers a beautiful view of the Bow River and the Canadian Pacific Railway. It was named after Nicholas Morant, accomplished Canadian photographer who worked for the railway company. A nice, warm summer picture taken by Naret from this location can be seen here.

Gorgeous shot! I've never been the Rockies in the winter, but this is what I was hoping to see. The snow plastered to those trees makes this look like a winter fantasy, and those mountains look better than ever. I like the curve of the train track and the river, leading into the scene and right toward the mountains. Stunning!

Hi Roland! Amazing landscape! I must say the lighting, weather, sharpness and colors are wonderful! Your shooting angle is also excellent, you managed to capture everything - the tall mountains, the curves of the creek and the railway, the blue sky and the green trees! Poster-like photo! Congratulations! The inclusion of Naret's summer photo is a welcome - we can compare both photos at different times. rgds.

Hello Roland,
STUNNING! Wow, this is an amazing shot of the Canadian Rockies of the winter. I've seen this spot too, but my photo from this area is not nearly as nice as yours. I love how the whole landscape is covered in snow, it really stands out agains that beautiful blue sky. Great composition and you have created an amazing perspective in this photo. Great work!
Greetings,
Ann

Terrific photo, Roland. The colours are spectacular and the scenery never ending. This is perhaps the most scenic location in North America to photograph the railroad, specifically the Canadian Pacific and as you mentioned, Nicolas Morant (CP company photographer) made this location world famous. Well done....

Absolutely beautiful winter scene! And curves of the river and the railroad make this quite dynamic looking too. Sharp and well exposed. It's just missing a train, but you never know when they appear.

Stunning image. Great composition. The lighting has ensured that every detail is visible. The curve of the rail track and the river leads the eye in beautifully.
Simple a first class piece of work.

Okay, where the H*** have I been that I missed 3 of your shots?
This shot Roly, I'm sorry to say is a true tragedy. A tragedy in the fact that it's only received 18 points so far.
Two words sum it up quite nicely "Simply Awesome"
There is only one thing that would put the icing on the cake, and have me offering to buy a print off you Roly(something I have yet to do from anyone), and that would be the addition of a train on those tracks.
You should be proud of yourself mate, I'd be- if I had this in my portfolio!
Well done Roly (as always),

Hi Roland - what a perfect winter panorama, the snow on the trees looks beautiful, and the parallel curves of the river and railway are interesting, with an image quality that is an advertisement for Canon.

Hi Roland,
The curvy railroad perspective leading to the mountains is superb from a compo point of view, and the luminosity of this snowy landscape turns this photo into a successful winter postcard, beautiful and deep. I wonder how it would look like with a red CP train...
Have a nice day,

Roly gorgous scenery in every respect. I love this winter glory scene. I must say what an incredible view of this place. Excellent curve in the road too. I think BC/ Alta looks a little more scenic than Hawaii. I have been to both places and I have my own mind made up! Oh yeah!

wow...
this is really superb. So well composed, what a pleasant shot, although perhaps not as pleasant spending much time out in the cold. The foreground is really beautiful and the background majestic.
nice shot!

Roland, enjoy your photo and information again. Surely someday I will visit this spot. So your information is really helpful.
Agree this is gorgeous shot. Pretty much well-done work and it is hard to think about other composition. As always like the sharpness and the detail too.
I do wish to see you take more pix here in different season. It is interesting to see Naret's version too.

Roland,
Another nice mountain picture. I like the curve of the line of the train which transports us to the mountains, over there. Thank you for sharing !

Hi Roland:
One of my favorite locations along the Bow Valley Parkway (I first discovered this overlook trying to catch and photograph a train, haha!). I personally prefer the view in winter--in summer there's too much monotonous green. At least the trees serve to break up the snow here. Above all, your lighting is fantastic. Wonderful work.
