Ek Chai...
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Perhaps my favorite thing to say in India. "Ek chai, one chai." Don't call it tea. Brits drink tea. To paraphrase the words of Lonely Planet, chai is made with more milk than water and with more sugar than you'd care to think about.
Classic chai is made by filling a pot with powdered tea, buffalo milk, lots of sugar and spices (cardamom, ginger), and seriously boiling.
If you get off the beaten track you can have a small cup for only a rupee or two, less than a US nickle. But you'll want a second....

Hey Bob, I'm also a big fan/drinker of Indian tea, even if it's not called tea. I think this is an interesting photo although maybe not one of your best. The man is looking away from the camera, and this gives the photo a 'disengaged look'; he's not looking at either you or the tea which he is making; he's looking at something else, and we don't know what that is. Also the front of the pot and the glasses are part of the subject of this photo, but they are not in the area of sharp focus, whereas the door behind him is (the brown plastic cup's also a little annoying).

Excelent document of indian daily life!!
I also think the note is very interesting!!
Besides the focus problem that josh69 mentioned, this photo doesn't stand alone -- it doesn't say "chai" to the uninitiated traveler so the explanatory note is necessary. Nevertheless it's a good daily-life shot that gives a good view of Indian life.
