Rosenborg Slot

Last Friday we had some heavy snow, about 10cm I guess. So when Sunday was a very sunny day, I decided to walk around in the centre of Copenhagen.
Here you can see Rosenborg Slot (Rosenborg Castle), located in the heart of the city in a park called Kongens Have (King's Garden).

Rosenborg Slot was built in 1606 by King Christian IV as his summer house. The castle is built in Dutch Renaissance style, just as Frederiksborg Slot, that I visited in December and also was built by King Christian IV. The castle is expanded several times, but got its present condition in 1624. Until 1710 Rosenborg was used as a royal residence. Nowadays Rosenborg is a museum and houses the Royal Collections. Also the exhibition of the Crown Jewels and the Danish Crown Regalia attracts many tourists.
The garden around Rosenborg is the oldest royal garden of the country and is popular among the people of Copenhagen in summer time to spend sunny days in.
The building you see on the right side of the castle is Statens Museum for Kunst, the National Gallery.

Another picture of Rosenborg, taken in summer time, can be found here.

I hope you like this winter picture from the heart of Copenhagen. :-D
