Photographer’s Note
"Men Seldom Make Passes at Girls Who Wear Glasses"
1985
"Pop culture and cliche are central to Alexis Smith's oversized portrait of the queen of glamour, Merilyn Monroe. Inside her eccentric sunglasses are two framed collages which function as "art" for the wall as well as stylish "shades" for the Hollywood starlet. Contained within these specs are images of football players and the writer Dorothy Parker's famous 1940's quip, "Men Seldom Make Passes at Girls Who Wear Glasses." The themes of "what is sexy" and "who's gazing at whom" are continued with traces of liptick, a letterman's letter, and an eye-exam chart. Painted directly into the wall, this larger than life Merilyn touts notions of fame and famousness familiar to the Southern California culture."

Hi Saule,
This work is one already completed time, any master key very quickly now, too quickly undoubtedly.
Good lighting and composition for this table.
And then your note indicates to us the exact direction of this work.
Well done

Hi Saule,
That is an interesting piece of art. Your compo catures it well. You mention in your note that it's painted on a wall. Since I'm from SD, I wondered where it's located?

this seems to be a pretty able photograph, did you shoot with a tripod? I'd think I can take the glasses off her nose (then make a pass at her?...kidding)so realistic the 3D effect is. I think the own fake relief of the frame works well with the image, as well as the daring grey of it. Looked about 10 times at these glasses since I started writing! Uncanny.... well done, saule!
