On the left behind the green fountain of mermaids/mermen/dolphins (by McMillan/Wheeler 1939)is our National Gallery, the facade of which was designed by William Wilkins. It first opened in this form in 1838.
On the right behind the larger fountain (originally built in 1849) is this years Christmas Tree, a majestic Norwegian Spruce which is kindly donated to Britain every year by Norway to express their gratitude for our sheltering of King Haakon VII during WWII.
Behind the Christmas Tree is the church of St-Martin-in-the-Fields. The church is a fusion of the Classical and Baroque styles of architecture, it was designed by James Gibb, and completed in 1726.

The long exposure (4s)gives a smooth effect to the fountain.
Your composition is complete.

Superb as always, so many elements captured in a composition harmony, how did you meter this Adrian, another plus ,not to get a tourist in sight to spoil it,some time and thought spent on this top shot well done

Exquiste night lighting with your 4 second exposure Adrian....the contrasts are just subtle enough to make one feel like being there admiring the fountains with the natural night lights.Great capture of the water fountains.

This is a good architectural positioning of your subjects. The lighting is great.

Encore une superbe photo Adrian.
Le temps d'exposition a permis de bien exposer les couleurs qui sont superbes.
Very well done.

I'm glad to see a post from your new 10D. I really like the way you handled the fountain on the right. And nice sky, creamy black. Is that out of the camera or did it require some smoothing?
I don't care for the 'busy' nature of the image. I'd like to see the fountain/sculpture on the left in more isolation, perhaps the use a shallow DOF.
I notice that your 'stars' have eight points. Does that mean your lens has eight blades?

Fantastic shot, Andrian. You used the water to get the white light to the statue while keeping the warm tungsten cast on the fountain. Wait, I found a chink in your armour, I can still see the tourists in the background :)

Wow. This is so clean, and uncluttered, the moving water is smooth and like cream ... and the lights are fantastic - the starburst effect on some of the lamposts especially. I am wondering how you were able to take a shot without much people.

Tout est déja dit !
Bravo superbe à mes yeux cette compositon de jeux d'eau mélé à ces batiments.

This is the best one yet I've seen of Trafalgar Square. Well done.

The composition is really great! I like the way you filled the image with black sky and light. And I especially enjoy the soft sharpness of the image. I really wouldn't know how to do better than this...
Well done Adrian!

That a very nice night shot with an instructive note. The 2 fontains are very well framed and colours and sharpness are perfect. Nice job!

Fantastic!! What really makes it for me are the fountain sprays -- perfect capture with 4 second shutter speed! That and the long exposure seems to have perfectly captured the mixed ambient lighting of the area. Very well done -- now I want a 10D even more!
philip_coggan (11) 2004-01-12 17:46
All this in one photo! Night photogrpahy isn't easy, the exposure is so hard to get right, but this one seems to have it.

Brilliant shot mate. Exposure is perfect. Details of both fountains and church are clear and the water is so smooth. Very interesting Trafalgar Sq. shot and made me missed London so much !

Very good night shot. Very clear, with great colors and a balanced composition dispite the multitude of details.

Beautiful night shot. I like the slow speed effect on the water. Well done indeed Adrien.

I like the soft colours and the smothness of the water. The picture is so sharp you can almost feel it. Nice view point combined with a nice note.

Adrian, I had a browse through your website too. These are really up there with some of the finest city and landscapes on TE. They're all really good, so favorites are tough. This one stands out particularly. Very nice work. regards, c
