I took this photo of the General Staff Building which is part of the Hermitage Museum on a trip to Russia two years ago.
The State Hermitage occupies six magnificent buildings situated along the embankment of the River Neva, right in the heart of St Petersburg. The leading role in this unique architectural ensemble is played by the Winter Palace, the residence of the Russian tsars that was built to the design of Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli in 1754-62. This ensemble, formed in the 18th and 19th centuries, is extended by the eastern wing of the General Staff building, the Menshikov Palace and the recently constructed Repository.
Put together throughout two centuries and a half, the Hermitage collections of works of art (over 3,000,000 items) present the development of the world culture and art from the Stone Age to the 20th century. (hermitagemuseum.org)
The people in front show the magnificent scale of this palace. It is truly an amazing sight.

Hi Alli, wonderful iamge of the gigantic Winter Palace!
few people in the square, good colours and focus and a perfect POV to have a so large view.

A beautiful photo, very well composed and with pleasant pastel colours. The only minor drawback is rather soft focuse. I've tried to sharpen it a little in a workshop.

Your photo is very nice, but this isn't the Hermitage. The Winter Palace stands on the other side, opposite this building.

Fantastic wide angle photo encompassing the entire square with very nice effects. I really like the details of the buildings and monuments as well as the way the people feature prominently here.

Very nice architectural shot, with great use of a WA lens. The colors and light look beautiful.
Although the focus seems a little soft, looking at the EXIF data makes me think that maybe the file size is a little small (79)kb).
Thanks for sharing and best regards,

wondeful and deep blue sky. The building is historical too.

A well composed shot of this famous spot. I like the play of light and shadow on the buildings. The people add warmth and, as your note says, help provide a measure of the scale of the structures. Your format and POV allowed inclusion of the entire statue without recourse to the portrait mode. Very effective. The sharpness level is also right on. Well captured, Alli.

Hello Alli! I hope you are fine! A great wide view of the most impressive square in Petersburg. Colours, light and composition are all very pleasing. The sharpening provided in the workshop is useful. Thanks and best regards, Chris.

This is an amazing shot, very well captured, nice colors and lighting. I got one shot in the same place last August during my Baltic Sea cruise but yours is much better. Good POV and TFS.

I like what seems like the immensity and grandeur of this place that you seem to have captured pretty well.
I wish that the photo were a bit more sharper ... but still I like this very much.
the blue sky, one pole kind of monument, and the long yellowish builiding .... all the elements are very nicely placed
thanks much for sharing this one ... you should'nt have hidden this awesome beauty for so long of a time
cheers for now ... sarju
