How to get down there?? Photo

Photographer’s Note

I took this picture at the entrance of the havasupaï reservation. A deep and gorgious canyon leads to an indian village, which you can access only by walking. It is a pretty long trek, very wild (it's not a national park), and very very hot by august!
I was looking for a different foreground to contrast with the redness of the stones. I picked the yellow plants.
I also did some postprocessing on the picture: I increased sharpness and a bit of saturation. I also tried to fix another big issue: the sky was "burnt". I used the tool in Photoshop to select the sky and change the color balance to make it more blue. But I am not very satisfied with the result, it doesn't look natural. I am open to any suggestion.
By the way, "white skies" are a big issu with digital camera, or is it only me??

J'ai pris cette photo à l'entrée de la réserve indienne Havasupaï. Un profond et magnifique canyon mène au petit village indien, tellement isolé qu'on ne peut y accéder qu'à pied. C'est une randonnée plutôt longue, très sauvage (ce n'est pas un park national artificiel) et surtout c'est très chaud en août! Je cherchais un premier plan different pour contraster avec les pierres à dominante rouge. J'ai choisi les plantes jaunes.
J'ai aussi fait un peu de post processing: j'ai augmenté la netteté et la saturation des couleurs. Puis j'ai essayé de réparer le ciel qui était "brulé". Je l'ai sélectionné avec l'outil Photoshop, puis j'ai changé la balance des couleurs. Je n'aime pas trop le résultat, un peu "artificiel", et j'attend vos suggestions!
D'ailleurs, à propos des ciels blancs en photographie numérique, c'est un problème commun ou c'est moi??

Salut Remi,
Impressionnant ce canyon!!! Concernant tes soucies techniques, ton image me semble détruite par un post processing trop puissant peut etre. Saches que les surexpositions sont impossibles à récupérer, le post traitement ne peut recuperer toutes les erreurs de la prise de vue, il vaut donc mieux sous exposé lors de la prise de vue.
A+, bon courage pour la suite. Tu verras, la photo est source de remise en cause permanente et source de progrès tout en étant accessible à tous.

Salut,
superbe cette photo, POV extra, la plante au premier plan est une valeur ajoutée efficace,le ciel n'est qu'un sujet tres secondaire dans ta photo, dont worry.

You have taken a good picture, I like the overall feel you have captured, you may have wanted to use a polorizer or a warming filter. I have run into the same problem with the sky being white, my way to rectify this issue is to pick a color as close to a natural sky color in the print and find the blue-red-yellow that fits the image the best. Even with film I find this a problem, and I go into Photoshop and do this exact process. You may look at my images on TE and you will see that is what I did with the image at Smith Rocks that has the blue sky. To place the correct sky color in took about five tries, but I think it does look natural. The clouds are not an important subject in your image, the canyon is.
Anyway, a good shot never the less.

Bonjour Rémi,
Très belle photo ! Les yeux sont attirés par le fond du canyon (effet renforcé probablement avec le premier plan). Je ne me tracasserais donc pas trop pour le ciel (qui est de plus réduit à un simple bandeau).
