I’ve been in Bilbao these days, the city is lovely, but the weather was awful, everyday raining. No good day light, so sorry if the photos are too grey and sad. Anyaway I’m fascinated by somethings I’ve seen, like for example the Guggenheim Museum, it’s amazing, all its forms and dimensions…. Wow! I’m gonna show you a serie of photos that I’ve taken.

From Wikipedia:
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a modern and contemporary art museum located in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. It is one of several museums of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation.
The structure, designed by Frank Gehry's architectural firm and opened to the public in 1997, immediately vaulted to prominence as one of the world's most spectacular buildings in the style of Deconstructivism. The museum's design and construction serve as an object lesson in Frank Gehry's style and method. Like much of Gehry's other work, the structure consists of radically sculpted, organic contours; the Guggenheim Bilbao claims that it does not have a single flat surface in the entire structure. Part of the building is crossed by a highway bridge, and a large portion of the structure is sheathed in paper-thin titanium panels.
The building, sited as it is in a port town, is intended to resemble a ship. Its brilliantly reflective panels resemble fish scales, echoing the other organic (and, in particular, fish-like) forms that recur commonly in Gehry's designs, as well as the river Nervión upon which the museum sits.
Also in typical Gehry fashion, the building is uniquely a product of the period's technology. Computer aided design and visualizations were used heavily in the structure's design. Computer simulations of the building's structure made it feasible to build shapes that architects of earlier eras would have found nearly impossible to construct. During its construction, stone panels were cut by lasers.
Also important is while the museum is a spectacular monument from the river, on street level it is quite modest and does not overwhelm its traditional surroundings.
The museum was opened as part of a revitalization effort for the city of Bilbao and for the Basque Country. Almost immediately after its opening, the Guggenheim Bilbao became a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the globe. It was widely credited with "putting Bilbao on the map".
The exhibitions in the museum itself change often, but most exposed work concerns 20th century art; traditional paintings and sculptures are often in a minority compared to installations and electronic forms. Some art enthusiasts feel that the building itself far too often overshadows the museum's collection.

Hi Sonia,
Congratulations. I love this foggy mood ! Very suggestive. Il like it.
Laurent.

Que tal Sonia?
Vaya bicho que han puesto, imaginación no les falta.
La niebla es artificial o viene de la ría?

Hi Sonia, I love this picture even that you said it was on a rainy day, i think the light of the day is perfect for the building and metal structure of the spider. The subject is good and tree on the left balances the whole shot out, thanks for sharing.

Amazing architecture... I was just taken by surprise in the first glance...

The lone tree is adding a pinch of nature to an engineering marvel..

well taken photo... gr8 timing (fog)

the misty look in your composition gives it an eerie feel as if the spider is alive and ready to take on and climb the guggenheim fascade. love this one..

Bonsoir Sonia,
Très intéressante composition et étrange atmosphère.
Très réussi, bravo.
Amicalement

Hola Sonia,

Great shot! Really spooky :-)

Impressive spider inside the museum !
Good composition, and this smoke gives a very mysterious atmosphere.
Well seen

I saw the spider sculpture when it was in Tate Modern in London. It looked good there but in your picutre it looks better - and the mist gives an air of naturalness which contrasts really well against the modernity behind.

This hoto has something strange to it. The spider and the fog give it a very scary and spooky feel. IM not a fan of signatures that are put on the photo itself. I would make a border and put the signature on the border.

You succeed in composing a very great shot with a hard and sad light. The pov is excellent, so is the dof. The tree is quite unexpected.
Finally, a mysterious and strong mood.
Well done.
Stéphane

Hi Sonia - the scary spider looks even more menacing under this gloomy weather, the mist adds a special atmosphere, great work.

There was a similar spider on here a day or so ago in relation to Tokyo. That one was taken at night with the moon showing -> Eerie.

Again, your spider in similar fashion hauntingly coming out of the mists of the pool with a dreary background to match.

You have captured the tale of beauty and the beast at its best. Great work.

Hi Sonia
Great composition. I think it might be interesting to see this picture on a B&W version, since it will make me remember the old movies. The notes are once again very helpful
Best regards

I saw many photo's af this Guggenheim Museum in, Bilbao but never like this! The grey and smag gives a particular effect, very nice.

Hi Sonia,
Very nice picture of this wuseum and this Louise Bourgeois' spider sculpure called "mother"...
Interesting fog givint a strange atmosphere...
Christophe

Hi Sonia,
This could be a photo from a science fiction movie where spiders are attacking our planet. The futuristic look of the Museum building, as well as fog help in creating this surreal atmosphere, and you captured it so well.
Dragana

Ola Sonia,
the mist gave to the shoot a magic atmosphere!
Can't do better with that weather.
A smile
Luca

Hi Sonia, It's fantastic what you saw in Bilbao. The weather adds a bit mystic mood. I've been there, I've seen the spider and the weather was much better, however my pic was not that great. Congratulations, Cheers, Michael

excellent atmosphere created with the sculputure I adore! So as Louise Bourgeois other works...
Just like in a science fi movie!
Amazing image! Bravo!

Has captado un momento increible.

Hello Sonya,
I love Gehry's works and your picture with mist and reduced colours adds spectacular atmosphere to this place. Bravo
Best regards
Romana

A very special picture of the building and the sculpture, the darkness and the fog gives to it a real gloomy aspect. Nice shot. Best regards.
