Photographer’s Note

Ruin of an Old Church in Templemore, County Tipperary, Ireland

Known as "the Black Castle" by locals, the ruin is a burned-down castle, dating from ~1450, and was built by the Butlers. (Many thanks to quilly for details about this location.)

When photographing old ruins on cloudy days I find that Black & White format provides a way to create additional impact that isn't possible in colour.

Great shot! I like the tonality of this, it's an incredible black & white conversion. I also like the way the lines converge toward the top, which really gives the photo a unifying look. The texture in the stones is also great, and the buidling stands out even more because of the light glowing behind the building and the trees. Well done!

This is a very effective photo. The cloud formation at the distance, trees on and around the church really gave the photo a strength in black and white. I like it a lot, thanks for sharing with us here...
