In your last postings and seeing that you traveled deep into Ethiopia I was just about to ask you whether you had followed the Omo river and come across the Mursi and other Omo tribes.
I just read yesterday an interesting photo article, written by an italian photog, about these tribes and the scarification rituals...a bit gory but very interesting ethnological documents. That made me think about your images
Another image of great interest from you.

Well I must admit it was the naked body that made me click on the image, but straight away I was taken back by the scarring. Great shot.
Hi Swiatek. Interesting fact to see. I have read one another ritual(?) in Ethiopia to diverse vergin women from married ones, that was a circumcision. It sometimes brings a death to them from deeply wounding a body. As for this photo, flies covers the scars.. mmm. It is just completely different world than here in Japan. I guess she has got a baby.. just guessing it from her breasts.

Hej Swiatek. man, this is a great image, well composed, really.
I don't want to follow your tracks, but I do want to get so some of these "off the path" places... how can I get to these kinds of villages with only public transport? Do you ever run into any hostility when trying to photograph people?

Swiatek, these shots you took in Africa are eye-openers for me. You show details of these people's lives that I have never seen elsewhere. And you do it with much class and power.
Another great one.
Bravo

this is an impressive and beautiful shot! i have seen such scars . They seem pretty awful to our societies but artistically, it is quite moving! Those scars look very deep and painful somehow... a great instructive shot swatiek!

Ciao Swiatek,
interesting note comes along a beautiful photo document.
I reached Omo valley in my trip to Ethiopia but a sudden rainfall prevent us to reach Mursi villages due of road impassable.
A smile.

Hi Swiatek
Impressive body art.
This is quite a good composition, but I belive by adding her head here will justify the sacrifing of her body toward and in the name of ART.
Cheers and Merry Christmas.

Quite an impressive photo, not only as a documentary portrayal, but also as a testament to your courage and facility with people of all kind.
[As an aside, a thought just occurs to me that these ritual mutilations might indeed serve the purpose of jacking up their active immunity to all kinds of infectious agents, and perhaps might also serve to provide the antibodies to their babies through breast milk...just a thought that perhaps some medical folks on TE might like to comment on]

Hi Swiatek,
Wonderful colours in this shot. I find this image quite pedagogic as well, the huts on the background out of focus, give a lot of information of where she is. Good work
Swiatek, well seen and documented. I am curious why not shoot this vertical to isolate the subject more and also bring out more details from the lovely braclets and cloth
